We’re proud to have designed structural supports for our long time collaborator Big Chief Demond Melancon, for his participation in the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia this year with ‘Amistad Takeover’ Black Masking Indian suits. These stands are an iteration from the ones we made for V&A Black Masking Culture in 2019, when we approached the V&A Museum to showcase this incredible artist’s work; who was also our colleague and cofounding teacher at Material Institute in New Orleans since 2018. These solid oak stands have been delivered in collaboration with Villa Filanda Antonini in Treviso, built by Falegnameria Brianese, and with ongoing guidance from Big Chief, Alicia Melancon and David Favret. Thank you

We have completed the deep retrofit of 10 Victorian villas forming student accommodation for St Anne’s College, Oxford.

The project aims to create a ‘home away from home’ for students at 1-10 Bevington Road and entails a comprehensive overhaul of the buildings situated in the North Oxford Conversation Area.

The reconfiguration of internal layouts provides 10 additional bedrooms - making a total of 82. Key upgrades to the building fabric are coupled with the careful incorporation of modern technology, improving thermal comfort whilst leading to an 80% decrease in operational energy demand and a reduction of the college’s reliance on fossil fuels as part of their estate-wide decarbonisation plan.

At the heart of the project are two key moves: restoring the original logic of the self-contained dwellings, so that they feel like homes and the introduction of new covered entrances to provide access and to connect the houses together. These new single storey buildings create a legible entry sequence from college - which historically would have been the rear of the houses - and are articulated with exposed timber roof structure, oak benches, skirting and glazed screens, and new filigree metalwork which references Victorian garden railings.

Inside the houses, the overarching aim is to create a renewed sense of domesticity, whilst addressing the practical challenges of bringing 160-year-old structures up to modern standards, fit for its population of students and conferencing guests. We have avoided a ‘one-size-fits-all’ strategy, instead working with the unique character and idiosyncrasies of each house.

We have begun work with South East Arts London and Lewisham Arthouse on refurbishing the Old Deptford Library on Lewisham Way, home of the Lewisham Arthouse.

The project to repair and restore this grand building to open up the building to better public use whilst improving the quality of the artist studio spaces is made possible with the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players.

Deptford Central Library was built in 1913-1914 to designs by Sir Alfred Brumwell Thomas. The building was designed to serve as the central library for Deptford with two branch libraries.

Lewisham Arthouse is an artist-led cooperative, established in 1992. Since March 1994 it has occupied the Old Deptford Library, registering it as an Asset of Community Value.

Our collaborators at UP Projects have created a short survey on the project and would love to hear from local residents, creatives, communities and businesses. Link in our bio.

We look forward to sharing our journey as it develops.

We are delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted for the new cancer support centre in Kent.

Aspiring to be sensitive to to its surroundings, the centre will be a warm, uplifting space offering solace, strength and connection to people living with cancer, as well as their families and friends.

The design celebrates place and permanence. Deep, occupiable walls offer moments of quiet privacy, blurring the lines between the sanctuary inside and the gardens out.

Designed by , the gardens at Maggie’s Kent draw on the county’s rich horticultural heritage. Historic earthworks and meandering paths create a rhythmic landscape of dappled light and biodiversity. This is a space designed for stillness and wellbeing.

In 2025 we visited Seoul, having been invited by Korea Arts & Culture Education Service (KACES) to contribute to the emerging Children’s Art Village. During the visit we explored the Children’s Art Village site at Yongsan Children’s Garden, spoke at the 20th Anniversary Public Forum on Arts & Culture Education Policy, and ran a collaborative workshop ‘Dancing Lines’ with local children.

We completed an Engagement Report, which reflects on and analyses Assemble projects involving community engagement - highlighting how play, participation, and co-design can shape inclusive and empowering public spaces. The report offers principles, approaches, and reflections to support the next phase of the Children’s Art Village.

Durham Wharf is a live / work space for artists nearing completion in Hammersmith, London. worked closely with and developing the various facades of the building. The white encaustic tiles are made from approximately 70% recycled clay, and the various lime-based renders include crushed demolition waste gathered during the first few months of the project.

The site itself was established 150 years ago as a coal wharf, and remains one of the few examples of the unique industrial past of this particular stretch of the River Thames. The development, formally a large rendered shed, hints toward this legacy as it turns the page on a new chapter for the wharf.

The renovation of Le Magasin Electrique ‘Lot 8’ has been selected for the EU Mies Award shortlist.

This nomination celebrates a radical approach, where the architecture is born from the landscape itself.

Developed as a collaboration between Assemble, Atelier Luma and BC architects & studies & materials, the project serves as a prototype for bioregional construction. By transforming local agricultural and industrial by-products, from limestone waste to sunflower fibers, we aimed to ground the industrial structure back into its territory. A recognition for architecture that prioritizes local material flows and shared research.

At the end of the year we were invited by architects Elias and Yousef to visit the home of their architecture practice and radio station in Bethlehem as part of an ongoing collaboration between our design studios. The Wonder Cabinet is a residency space, exhibition gallery, workshop, bar, cafe, indoor market, music venue and recording studio hosting international and Palestinian artists, chefs, researchers, musicians and so much more.

During the trip we were fortunate to get the chance to visit the While We Wait pavilion by in the Cremisan Valley, manufactured using CNC milling tools at the Founoun Arts of Carved Stone as well as the metal artisans at the Bandak Metal Factory who fabricated all of the Wonder Cabinet’s doors, windows and majority of its furnishings.

It was so inspiring to see first hand how regional skill, craft and ingenuity breathes through this building. So well deserving of their Aga Khan Award for Architecture.

Thank you to the British Council for supporting this trip, and all the Wonder Cabinet team for being so welcoming to us .anastas , Ibrahim Owais,
