At JMA, we centre every design on our three fundamental principles of light, layout, and flow. Crafting this open plan kitchen/living room in Bromley, we used careful window design to infuse the space with natural light. In this residence, we opted for expansive glass doors, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor realms, offering picturesque views of the garden. Such fluidity fosters a harmonious connection between various sections of the house, fostering an inviting atmosphere for family gatherings.

Communicating through sketches is something that we do a lot at JMA. Here are some sketches in the office going over ideas for one of our projects. We try to do lots of different sketches to get lots of ideas that we can implement into our clients projects. These will usually be the beginnings our our design process and become the sleek visuals you end up seeing. Enjoy this insight on how we create.

Its great to see one of our team members Sarah delivering a keynote address for and GLA . We're passionate about teaching and supporting the construction kids of the future.

We had one of our architectural team members Sarah speak on her background and experience as a woman of colour getting into architecture as well as the projects she works on at JMA. Sarah is a technical designer on our architectural team working on a lot of our residential projects. The talk was well received and many children went home inspired.

Today made all the really hard work organising this event worthwhile.

Here is a visualisation of our concept design for a ground-floor extension and whole-house renovation in South London. The design prioritises the creation of a light-filled, minimalist kitchen, social space, and an open-plan ground floor layout leading out onto a landscaped garden.

We've worked on crafting this main social space within the family home. On the existing ground floor many of the existing spaces within the house were disconnected and the kitchen and dining space was very dark, and was connected to a worn-down conservatory to the rear the house.

We worked on enhancing the flow and layout to create a functional, contemporary Kitchen dinning space re connected to the front living room via glazed doors. The space features expansive roof lights which flood the heart of the home with natural light. Embracing a neutral palette, we are creating inviting social spaces perfect for family gatherings, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living.

Here is an internal image from our project with ACCG based in the North of England. This image shows the proposed refurbishment of the centre's dining hall, which we've been designing to bring more light and warmth to the space. Our team has incorporated new roof lights and carefully considered the use of wood to create a welcoming and uplifting atmosphere. We're proud to be working with ACCG on this important project and look forward to sharing more updates soon.

Here is the Staircase Design at The Retreat Project. In this snapshot, we showcase a standout feature in our contemporary open-plan room. We worked closely with the client and our team to create a vision of the glass balustrade extending up the wall, making the staircase a defining element of the space.

Collaborating closely with sub-contractors during the construction phase, we ensured the glass balustrade was not just aesthetically pleasing but also met the highest standards of toughness and safety. Through a series of in-depth discussions and meetings, we fine-tuned the design, thinking about how to maximise space and make the staircase a stand out part of the design. Flick through to see some pictures of the construction process which is making this design come to life.

Here's another image of an incredible project we worked on for . It's nice sometimes to look back at the cool projects and think about what defined the output. This project was about the feeling of flying mixed with thinking around landscapes.

Here are some images for a recent talk we did at , the UK’s top specialist Rights of Light, Daylight and Sunlight, Party Wall, Building Consultancy and Fire Consultancy practice.

We delved into the crucial role of rights of light and the construction design process, revealing how architectural work and the expertise of consultants like are deeply intertwined.

We showcased some of our residential projects, shedding light on how Party Wall and right of light considerations impact our designs.

It was an honour to have their Chairman, John Dembitz, share his insights. His skilful communication underscored the importance of rights of light studies, party wall considerations, and fire cladding assessments. Their practice's expertise significantly supports us as architects.

This enlightening discussion left us with a deeper appreciation for the way that light, architecture, and legal considerations all intertwine, and we hope everyone who participated found it as insightful as we did.

Thank you to Michael Austin, the associate director, for putting together this wonderful day and to supporting colleagues for making this all happen. It was a pleasure to see such passion and involvement in this topic.

We are back at ‘The Retreat’ and we are excited to see the joinery installation in full progress. The team onsite has progressed works very quickly and considerately, much to the client’s satisfaction. We have considered the tolerances and the form and detail of joinery to work with the interior architecture of the space to harmonise it all. We are really enjoying seeing this all coming together. Some of the last touches will be fingerball handles and concealed joinery lighting that will create a modern contemporary feel in the space with the practicalities of storage and organisation.

It was great to be featured in a recent Q&A session on Artists and Objects. This interview allowed me to discuss various facets of my work as an architect, broadcaster, and creative director.

You can read the full interview here - https://buff.ly/3Fpp6m6

Here are some insights from the interview:

"Collaboration is a key element of my approach to architecture. Some of the most fulfilling work I’ve undertaken within the practice has arisen from fruitful collaborations."

"We are very interested in the role buildings can play in communities. Creating architecture that can genuinely contribute to the wellbeing of the community has become more vital and challenging than ever before."

"Light, layout, and flow are the foundational elements that shape our architectural approach."

Many thanks to Artists and Objects for providing a platform for me to discuss these topics.

Here is another photo of the pool house we created for our client in West London. Situated on a narrow plot of land, we maximised the available space to create a serene retreat around the pool, something you don't normally find in England!

We love crafting cool and innovative designs that maximise the potential of each space, creating environments that enhance our clients' way of life.
