Congratulations to the newly elected Lambeth councillors.

Throughout this election, we made it very clear that community spaces and assets are NOT for sale. We have had enough of developments that do not benefit us as Lambeth residents, and that come at the expense of community spaces & support.

Thank you to the councillors and candidates who made clear public commitments to support International House throughout the campaign - especially those who stood with us on the steps of Lambeth Town Hall (, & ), those who fought for the building from within the Town Hall (.ainslie.73), and Donna Harris, who also backed International House.

Those commitments clearly mattered to Lambeth, and the election results reflect that.

We will continue to push for these commitments to be turned into action, and for the new administration to retain the social value of the incredible communities and work happening within International House.

Thank you to every single person who showed up to the protest, signed the petition, spread the word about International House, and voted with International House in mind.

This campaign has already shown what happens when we organise together - let’s keep building our power. Sign up to our mailing list (link in bio) for next calls to action ✊🏽.

Losing International House means weakening support systems for our local Brixton businesses.

Elle Moss from explains how lonely owning a businesses can be, and the challenges that people can encounter. Her organisation works on providing a community-led, peer support group that allows local businesses to develop & combat loneliness.

International House has been providing affordable communal workspaces for local Brixton-based businesses to expand, and fight the loneliness that comes with running an organisation. Literally breaking down the walls and doors that separate us, International House has fostered floor-wide collaboration and community-building.

Let's fight for our local Brixton businesses - we cannot let them be pushed out.

, an International House tenant organisation, has been residing in the building since 2024.

Experiencing the heightened pressures put on local businesses over the pandemic, this organisation was specifically launched to support our Brixton businesses.

Through fortnightly meetings, socials, development & community opportunities, they have been providing holistic support to our communities and strengthening our local economy.

International House has created a space for community-led, supportive initiatives like Born or Made* that we absolutely cannot risk losing.

It's time to put Brixton & our community first! With a NOC Lambeth, we need to ensure that the International House tenants remain as visible as possible. Share 's work and sign up to our mailing list - link in bio.

it's time for some transparency.

Over the past few weeks, Lambeth Labour has been sharing various flyers about their social homes achievements. There's more to the story than that big number.

Firstly, the figure of 'almost 1,000 social homes' is yet to be backed by any evidence. It has been widely contested, and Councillor Danny Adilypour has not substantiate that figure yet.

Secondly, the redevelopment of International House has been widely framed as a social housing development by the Lambeth Labour Party, even being added to the figure above.
At a Reversed Hustings led by , we restated our objection to the sale of International House, and asked Councillor Clare Holland to agree to a series of demands that would help support the International House tenants. The response failed to acknowledge any of the demands, but also presented the application as a social housing development, leaving local attendees confused about the real nature of the application.

So let us make it clear - the redevelopment of International House is solely for luxury & workspace purposes. There will be NO social homes in the current International House building. We are replacing London's biggest affordable workspace and a hub of community support with LUXURY housing and workspaces that are unlikely to meet the current rates of the building.

Make sure to vote tomorrow. Let's keep our elected officials accountable.

These 4 International House organisations alone support over 3,000 young people in Lambeth every year.

With the sale of International House, we risk losing this vital support.

On May 7th, remember who stood by Lambeth's young people, and who didn't. More information on this on our latest carousel.

Ahead of the Lambeth elections, remember who is standing with Brixton & International House.

The building is currently home to over 100 community organisations, operating rent-free and delivering vital support on food insecurity, housing, youth work, education, HIV support and mental health.

The redevelopment will result in the loss of International House as a base for over 100 community organisations. Many of the organisations operating within IH have an annual turnover lower than £10k - anything that is not peppercorn or free rent is simply not a viable option for them. Although the council promised relocation support, the tenants are yet to receive any genuinely affordable options or support.

Candidates defending the plans argue International House was always intended as a “meanwhile” space and justify the loss of community space by pointing out the delivery of social housing. However, no social homes are even planned at the International House site itself.

On election day, remember who stood with local organisations, Black and Global Majority-led groups, young people, families facing food insecurity, and who did not.

🚨🚨SPREAD THE WORD AND HELP WILLAN OUT🚨🚨

Willan has been trading in the market for the last 3 years. Due to a lack of footfall, he has fallen behind on his rent but has been diligently paying it back every week - a staggering £2000 a week at a time for the last 17 weeks.

This week, Willan was late by 4 days as he had to pay £1000 extra in upkeep costs - on fire alarm and gas certificate. Willan showed up today to open his business and to pay the £2000 he owes for the week - only to find that Taylor McWilliams has changed the keys and locked him out of his business.

Willan is an active member in the market. He has previously talked about the lack of footfall in the market, and has previously gone viral for giving free food away over Christmas. He missed a payment by four days to fulfil other obligations to his tenancy and the management company immediately kicked him to the curb. Is this the way to do business and to treat people?

Taylor McWilliams - act up now and take back this disgusting act of violence against our traders!

Since 2021, Minerva Virtual Academy has been educating thousands of young people with emotional, situational, or neurodivergent needs.

The majority of these young people would likely not be receiving an education, or a full-time education, if it weren’t for MVA.

The value of MVA extends beyond its social impact. Within International House, the school has grown substantially. From having 20 employees and a dozen children, it now has over 200 employees who contribute to the local Brixton economy.

Losing International House would likely mean relocation. We risk losing more than a building. We risk losing the environment and ecosystem that has allowed MVA to grow, vital support & education for our young people, our local businesses, and the future of Brixton itself.

After years working in TV and film and watching perfectly good sets, props and costumes go to waste, Kate and Emma decided to work on an alternative.

In 2021 they started PropUp - a CIC redistributing materials from film and TV sets to community organisations who need them.

Since then, they have donated over 50,000 items to organisations supporting young people, food banks, refugee groups and others across our community. 1,500 of those donations have gone to 32 organisations in Lambeth to address the unequal sharing of resources.

Kate describes their time at International House as a ‘series of fortunate events’ for a reason! While dropping off a donation, a receptionist called Matt suggested they apply for a workspace. What started as a couple of desks, has now turned into a hub on the 10th floor. This space has allowed them to grow as a CIC as they are able to receive, store and redistribute at a scale that keeps up with the speed of the industry.

If International House is sold, PropUp may have to operate on a reduced scale outside of Lambeth. We cannot afford to lose such an important resource.

Show some love! When the developers do not want you to talk about what happens within the walls of International House, visibility is power!

You know it’s time to pay attention when the developer behind a gentrification project tries to convince you that a place has no value.

has called International House “obsolete.” Yet this is the same building that more than 100 small community organisations call home free of charge. Whether they’re supporting young people, refugees, older residents, or unhoused people, International House has been doing work that should be providing for free.

The developer benefits from you not knowing what we risk losing through this. That’s why it’s so important to stay informed about what happens inside the building. The tactic of “you can’t lose what you can’t see” won’t work.

We will continue to spotlight the organisations based at International House on our social media. Show them some love, tell your friends about them, and don’t forget about the value of International House!
