Due to a medical emergency in the early hours of this morning which can be seen on my personal timeline we will be on restricted hours and duties for a while, consequently we will be unable to take on any more work for the moment except for work already booked in.

We had two visitors this afternoon to drop a loco off for a repair to its regulator spindle. The loco was an Accucraft Lyn in a potential British Railways livery which I had serviced and fitted radio control to many years ago around the time of AbbeyBach Engineering Services Ltd's formation if memory serves. We had never met, all dealings being done by phone or messenger due to the owner living in Cornwall and me being in the Top Left Corner of Wales. Nick Wood and his brother Graham. Great to make their acquaintance in reality. What was going to be a 'send it back when done' job was just a quick fix and take it away again. A good hour or so of yakking and looking at our railway and the lads were on their way again.

This was the prototype of the Accucraft Black 5 which never made it into production as a competitor brought theirs out first. It came to us with a requirement to get it working so... we did.
An alteration to the superheater and a new homemade burner and it does what it says on the tin...
I used to see a number of these around the area where I used to live before the demise of steam on British Railways. Wonderful machines. It would be nice to see it on one of my display shelves...

A couple of months ago this Adams Radial Tank came in to see if I could repair it after a fall from height at a garden railway in the south west of England. It was rather bent and battered with the cab and footplate being twisted out of alignment and a couple of the smaller Handrail and dummy pipe details missing.
Luckily the paint had fared reasonably well with only a bit of the black and a very small area of lining requiring touch up. A small bit of green needed doing to so a bit was mixed by eye..
It looks as if it ought to pass muster now, so the owner can have it back.

This came in from one of our commercial customers a few months ago. It was unpainted and had spent a while in a dusty environment. Between ourselves and our local painter it has been spruced up, cleaned, painted and lined, with name and numberplates by Endon Valley Custom Decals. It has also received some detailing which was missing from the model as received.
It has been tested and runs rather sweetly. It is as shown in Stephen Phillips book on the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway shortly before the vacuum and steam heating pipes were routed along the edge of the loco.

Yesterday's second trial was the new Accucraft Talyllyn Railway No3 Sir Haydn. An absolutely gorgeous loco which ran very nicely. I think those who saw it in the 'metal' were impressed by the quality, finish and its running. Having driven the 12" per foot scale version about 18 years ago from Wharf to Brynglas and back under the tutoring of the late, great, Charles Daniel your scribe has a soft spot for this loco.
The model did not disappoint.

Yesterday was a day of two trials. This is the first: An Accucraft Peckett 0-4-0 which we have managed to fit 2 channel radio control into using Fosworks R/c.
A complicated and involved instalation which made me wonder if I could actually do it at times. It works. I doubt if I'll do any more though as it is not commercially viable really.

As it's Easter weekend we think we deserve a break for a few days, so, we will shut up shop this evening and then head back into the workshop on Tuesday next (7th April). Except for a trip out tomorrow the grand masterplan is to do some gardening and general maintenance of this place and fall back onto so of my own fleets repairs if the weather is iffy.
