Completed Home Office Installation at our Deep Retrofit Project

As part of this wider deep retrofit renovation, we recently completed the installation of a dedicated home office space designed to integrate seamlessly within the overall performance upgrade of the property.

With more people working from home than ever, spaces like this need to feel practical, calm and well integrated into the home itself.

Alongside improvements to the building fabric, ventilation and heating systems, attention was also given to how the home functions day to day creating practical, comfortable spaces suited to modern living.

This property has undergone a full retrofit, transforming it into a modern, energy-efficient home designed for long-term living.

What is MVHR, and why does it matter in a retrofit?

When homes are upgraded with insulation and made more airtight, ventilation becomes essential.
We install MVHR systems (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) to provide:

Extending properties & Creating space safely its what we do.

To open up this property and allow for the extension, to another of our deep retrofit projects we installed structural steel beams to support the new layout.
This is one of the most important ,and potentially dangerous stages of any build.
It must be carried out by experienced professionals with the right planning and support in place. Especially now with architects and clients wanting big open spaces for windows, doors etc as you can see below not much was left of the corner of the house to get the steels in, yet in they went and the house is now more structurally sound than ever.
Once complete, the transformation is clear larger spaces, better flow, and a completely different feel to the home.

PIR insulation or wood fibre insulation, which is better?

The honest answer is, it depends on the building.

PIR is a great option where you need strong thermal performance with a slimmer build-up. Typical PIR products are around 0.021–0.022 W/mK, so they can help achieve target U-values without taking up too much space.

Wood fibre insulation is a strong choice where breathability, moisture management and summer comfort matter more. Typical wood fibre products are around 0.043 W/mK, so they usually need more thickness, but they can help with moisture buffering and overheating performance in the right build-up.

📐✨ Smart retrofit upgrade!

We kicked out the roof to cover new external wall insulation (EWI) all the way up to the wall plate 👊. Then we:
🪵 Packed the roof with insulation
🌱 Added rigid wood fibre boards (natural + breathable)
🎨 Finished with lime render for a timeless look
💧 Installed sleek Lindab guttering + a rainwater harvesting fitting — so every drop of rain can be put to good use!

This means:
✔️ No cold bridging
✔️ Walls + roof fully protected
✔️ A breathable, long-lasting envelope
✔️ Rainwater ready for reuse 🌍
