Hi all!
I took a little wander down to the Community Garden today, not really expecting much, but hoping I might rescue a potato or two (and maybe a leek if I was lucky).
Well… surprise!
Despite having overwintered in the ground longer than planned, I lifted three potato plants and gave them the traditional “gentle squeeze test.” Yes, a few are a bit on the squidgy, heading-for-the-compost side of life—but the rest? Big, firm, and absolutely usable. 🥔
The cocktail leeks were equally encouraging! After a good strip-down and wash, we’ve got some lovely, bright, firm teeny leeks just waiting to be enjoyed.
So here’s a little plea on behalf of our potatoes and leeks….
Let’s not let them rot heroically in the soil, let’s dig them up and use the good ones!
Everything growing there is for the community. You don’t need to have helped grow them, and there’s no charge at all. If you’re unsure what’s planted where, just ask - we will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
Come grab some goodness while it’s still good! 👍🌿 🥔
