⚓️ Another busy week at Kings Bromley Wharf!

After a breakdown, we’ve got our forklift back up and running and straight back to work:

🔹 Unloaded another narrowboat from transport
🔹 NB Golden Girl grit blasted, with pit welding now underway
🔹 NB Karuda, NB Ellandee, NB Earl of Greystoke and NB Hector jet washed and prepared for hull blacking and new anodes
🔹 Little NB Beany is with us for welding work and hull blacking
🔹 NB Lutris has had its aluminium top gently blasted, ready for a full paint job
🔹 NB Patricia Ann and NB Alongertail are out of the water for grit blasting, two-pack epoxy blacking to the base and sides, and new anodes
🔹 Our latest overplating job is progressing well, with new side plates being stitched onto the hull
🔹 NB Tilly 2 has undergone extensive preparation following grit blasting, ready for the top coats to be applied
🔹 Our latest bespoke new build continues to progress, with further exterior paint preparation, mushroom vents and solar panels being fitted, alongside more internal joinery
🔹 NB Neon Moon is now progressing through the top coats of its paint job, complete with brand-new windows throughout being installed

The Lichfield and Hatherton Canal Restoration Trust are just £3,400 short of their pledge target for the Big Give Christmas Challenge, and the deadline is 5pm on 28 August.

If you haven’t yet taken part, they are asking whether you can pledge £100 (or more) to help us reach our target.

What is the appeal for?

They need to complete the final 230 metres of the Lichfield Canal at Gallows Reach, but the recent funding bids have been unsuccessful.

How does the appeal work?
They're aiming to raise a total of £100,000 to help towards the cost of materials.

Stage 1:
Secure £25,000 in pledges before 5pm on 28 August 2026.

Stage 2:
Wait to see whether we are awarded £25,000 in Champion Funding, which would top up the match‑fund pot to £50,000.

Stage 3:
The appeal goes live in December, when we aim to raise £50,000 in donations - all donations are doubled from the match‑fund pot of pledges and any Champion Funding.

⚡ Electrical Upgrades for NB WestWind II ⚡

NB WestWind II has been in with us for some important electrical upgrades following a small fire caused by a failed fuse and a poor existing wiring setup.

The old setup has now been safely removed and replaced with a much safer, cleaner and neater installation, including:

🔋 New domestic battery bank
⚡ New, tidier battery wiring
🛡️ Additional MEGA fuses for improved circuit protection
🔧 Removal of unsafe/poorly installed existing wiring
✅ A much safer and more serviceable setup going forward

A good reminder of just how important correct cable sizing, proper fusing and good-quality electrical connections are on any boat.

NB Lavender is now ready to go back in the water after an emergency repair.

The boat was close to sinking due to a severely corroded rudder tube. We lifted the boat out as an emergency, removed the rotten tube, fabricated a brand-new replacement, and welded it into place. While carrying out the repairs, we also discovered another hole hidden behind the rear fender, which was patch welded before the boat was returned to a watertight condition.

To finish the job, we also blacked the hull, leaving NB Lavender protected and ready to get back on the water.

A busy day in the yard today.

Historic narrowboat Marcellus, which was unfortunately struck by a tree recently, has now been safely unloaded from transport and is in secure storage ready for the insurance survey.

We also loaded NB Darstur, which is now on its way to Ireland 🇮🇪
