🚤 NB Duke came to us after not being out of the water for an extremely long time. The owner expected the worst, and unfortunately, the survey report confirmed that the hull sides required overplating, along with 20 feet of the baseplate at the stern.

We grit blasted the entire hull before the survey, carried out the required overplating, and then grit blasted it again to remove any mill scale and rust that had developed during the work. The hull sides and baseplate were then coated with 2-pack epoxy blacking.

We also added a new D bar guard down the length of the sides, are fitting 10 new anodes, and the owner has opted for a full paint job to bring this Tyler Wilson shell back to life.

NB Kuredu has been with us for a busy spell at the yard.

After jet washing the hull, we found that the existing paint was coming off easily, with mill scale visible across the steel. We showed the owner what we’d found and recommended grit blasting followed by two pack epoxy blacking, which they chose to have done.

Although Kuredu is only three years old, there were also early signs of pitting along the hull sides where no anodes had been fitted. The steel around the four existing bow and stern anodes was in good condition, so the owner chose to add three more anodes down each side.

We also:

• Fitted a new water pump and accumulator tank
• Grit blasted and painted the gunwales
• Fitted a new water tank breather that vents outside the boat
• Fitted a jimmy proof stern door lock to secure the doors to the hatch
• Fitted stainless steel hatch runners for smoother operation
• Serviced the engine
• Welded a hole in the bow locker and an additional hole in the gas locker to address Boat Safety Scheme requirements

Store your narrowboat ashore this winter at our yard on the Trent & Mersey Canal, near Lichfield. Boats are stored out of the water on sleepers.

MONTHLY STORAGE PRICES

▪️ Up to 50ft — £225 per calendar month
▪️ 51–60ft — £250 per calendar month
▪️ 61–70ft — £275 per calendar month

CRANING PRICES

▪️ Crane out and position on sleepers — £300
▪️ Crane back into the water — £300
▪️ Total crane out and back in — £600

WINTERISATION & SERVICING

▪️ Winterisation — from £150
Domestic water system drain-down and engine coolant antifreeze protection check. Final price depends on your boat’s systems; additional work or materials quoted separately.

▪️ Engine service — £280
▪️ Heating service — £280

We can also quote for grit blasting, 2-pack epoxy blacking, bitumen blacking, anodes, welding, overplating and other repairs or maintenance during your stay.

🔌 Electricity can be provided at an additional cost to keep batteries topped up.

STORAGE CONDITIONS

• No DIY work permitted.
• Access during working hours only, unless otherwise agreed in advance.
• Storage only — no staying aboard or overnight accommodation at the yard.
• Storage payable monthly in advance.
