I’ve gotta say it running a small rendering business is extremely hard. I’ve noticed this in the last year.
Customers more demanding, impatient, rude and some just horrible to point the stress has made me so ill it’s affected me and my family.
I work on my own with a labourer when I can get help I don’t have a team of lads. Why because I don’t want under skilled lads who don’t give a s**t rendering your house. You get my attention to detail,my experience and my skill.
I have terms and conditions which explains everything from payment terms, structural issues, weather conditions, supply issues etc which a customer sometimes signs!
I ask for deposits, stage payments why…. Well I’m not a bank for your job why do I have to pay out of my own money when have so much business running costs ie tax, vat, fuel, wages, etc . A late payment holds things up because I wait for the payment then I’ll order materials then I have to wait for a delivery slot. But remember I’m not a delivery driver I don’t know what time it’s coming.
I can’t control the weather if the conditions are not right I don’t come! No I can’t render in the rain or extreme heat! And when it does rain it pushes my diary back.
it’s impossible to give dates all I can do is work down my job list and do my best. If you’re impatient then you go ahead and get a cowboy.
Don’t get me wrong I’ve worked with some lovely customers but this year really has been testing mentally to the point if I could I’d finish my business because the stress is just too much .
All I am is a plasterer with 25 years experience. Im not a cowboy I’m not a s**t plasterer who can do a cheap job.
Running a small business is just s**t nowadays.
