Had a job in Whitley DN14 this week replacing an old oil boiler with a new Vaillant air source heat pump.
The old oil boiler was loud, smelly and inefficient. The customer has now upgraded to a clean, quiet and much more efficient heating system.
With the £9,000 government grant available for eligible oil and LPG homes, this customer only paid £600 towards the upgrade.
There really has never been a better time to look at switching from oil to a heat pump.

🚨 Big changes coming to energy prices

The government has just announced plans to stop gas prices controlling electricity prices… and it’s about time.

👉 What’s the problem now?
Even though loads of our electricity comes from cheaper renewables like wind and solar, the price you pay is still set by gas.
So when gas goes up, everything goes up.

👉 What are they doing about it?
• Moving older renewable generators onto fixed price contracts
• So they’re not getting paid inflated gas driven rates
• Covering around a third of the UK’s electricity supply

👉 Extra measures
• Increasing windfall tax on generators from 45% to 55%
• Using that money to support households and businesses

👉 Why it matters
Gas prices are volatile due to global issues, wars, supply problems etc
But we’re still paying for it even when using cheap electricity sources

This change is meant to:
✔ Reduce bills
✔ Protect people from price spikes
✔ Push the UK further towards clean energy

👉 The reality
This won’t fix bills overnight, but it’s a big step in the right direction.
Long term, the more we rely on electric heating and renewables, the more this kind of change matters.

We are now officially Heat Geek Approved with Heat Geek.

For anyone who does not know, Heat Geek focuses on properly designed heating systems. Especially heat pumps and low temperature systems. It is all about correct heat loss, correct sizing and making sure the system actually performs properly, not just that it switches on.

I did the course a couple of years ago because I wanted to get better at what we do. Simple as that. Not just fitting systems, but properly understanding the design behind them. The maths. The reasoning. Why one setup works and another does not.

We have now taken it a step further and been approved to join the Heat Geek Upgrades programme.

This is not about saying anyone else is doing it wrong. There are plenty of good installers out there. For us, it is about doing what we believe is right and backing it up with proper calculations, not guesswork.

We are one of only a handful of Heat Geek Approved installers in Leeds and West Yorkshire, which we are proud of because of the standards it represents.
