Today we were at the:
Mainstreaming Innovation: Launch Event
at the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation, (ECCI)
http://www.mainstreaminginnovation.org/events/events/212,4/Launch-event-Edinburgh-ECCI.html
A consortium of nine Scottish universities, led by Glasgow Caledonian University, will deliver a joint one-year project "Mainstreaming Innovation".
The project aims to reduce carbon emissions by developing and testing innovations for integrated sustainable infrastructure in the existing built environment that could be replicated on existing and new building estates (e.g. housing, education, healthcare and other building estates).
The project will support development, testing and application of innovative low carbon technologies for improving
1.landscaping and biodiversity
2.energy efficiency in existing buildings
3.energy generation from renewables, storage and decentralized systems
4.water harvesting, saving, recycling and flood prevention
5.waste reduction, reuse and waste-to energy
6.low and zero carbon transport and
7.ICT/BMS systems for monitoring, reporting and management of low carbon infrastructure.
New technological solutions that combine different low carbon innovations to make better use of resources, close energy loops, achieve better efficiencies, reduce the need for maintenance and minimise the costs will be encouraged.
The event will indicate what sustainable infrastructure is being planned or would be desirable in housing, healthcare and educational estates.
The project aims and delivery will be explained, including support provided by an Advisory Panel on applicability of proposed innovations in existing built estates, collaboration with colleges in demonstrating innovations and dissemination of the project outputs through webinars.
The event will be attended by researchers on sustainable infrastructure and businesses interested in testing their innovative products and processes for integration of sustainable infrastructure.
