🍂 Keep warm and save energy this autumn
As the colder months arrive after a very hot summer, we’ve put together a few practical tips to help you stay comfortable and keep your energy bills under control.
Whether you’re looking after your home or managing commercial premises, small changes to how you use gas and electricity can help reduce waste and lower running costs.
🕒 Review your heating timer
For gas central heating, set schedules around when your home or premises are occupied and warmth is needed.
🌡️ Set a comfortable temperature
For most people at home, 18–21°C is comfortable. In workplaces, consider the activities taking place and occupants’ needs. Turning the thermostat higher won’t heat rooms faster.
♨️ Adjust radiator valves
Reduce heating in rooms used less frequently, while maintaining enough warmth to prevent damp.
🚪 Keep warmth inside
Draught-proof gaps around doors and windows, keeping ventilation grilles and air vents clear.
💡 Use lighting efficiently
Switch off lights in unused rooms and replace older bulbs with LEDs. In commercial premises, consider timers or occupancy sensors where appropriate.
☕ Reduce hot water waste
Only boil the water you need and take shorter showers.
🔌 Check what stays switched on
Switch off equipment that doesn’t need to remain powered, while keeping essential systems running.
