I've been out and about this week and these pictures are from a wooded garden just outside Keighley. The garden edges had been invaded by brambles, so I've given them some strimmer therapy, and the brambles didn't put up much of a fight 😂! Also finding some old pathways around the undergrowth. Still a few visits to get on top of the jungle but also leave some pockets to the wildlife 😎.

Where would we be without fauna and flora 😎.

Thank goodness the cooler wet weather has returned so lawns can get get back to being lawns.

This lawn up on the tops nr Oxenhope has had to have a much needed rest and has just had the tips taken off and mulched back in on a medium/ high setting 6 - 7.5cm or if your old school like me 😂 3inch ish. Moles are loving the softer lawns 🫣. Hopefully over the next 4-6 weeks most lawns will have recovered in time for that late Autumn/ Early Winter dormancy when soil temperatures drop between 2c - 6c and next March we can see the return of that sweet spring grass 😎.

A lovely sunny morning over in Oxenhope gardening 😎. Mulch plug in and feeding the tips back in.

Whilst carrying out a 4hr maintenance at my customers house I will often pop my sprinkler on to give the lawn a drink whilst I'm pottering on with weeding and pruning ect.

Good Morning fellow garden lovers 💚🌻🌻.

The weather has definitely been consistent with wall to wall sunshine which has produced both positive and negative results in and around the garden.

Sunshine loving drought tolerant plant species such as the:

Lavandula (Lavender) A Mediterranean classic.

Achillea 'Moonshine' Yarrow.

Sedum (Stone Crop)

Echinacea (Corn Flower)

Just a few that come to mind and that thrive in dry, well draining soil.

Plants that maybe suffering due to drier soil conditions..

Hydrangea - due to their large leaves and blooms loose moisture quickly and the stress signs are drooping leaves and blooms.

Fuchsia - native to shaded, humid forests and grow at higher altitudes where the air is cooler and do not like hot dry weather.

Fern - one of the first plants to show signs of struggle in the garden due to heat and dry soil.
Stress signs include brown crispy fronds and wilting foliage.

Just a few plants that maybe struggling at the moment.

Watering schedules may have to change to earlier in the morning or later in the evening when the temperatures are lower if your plants start to display signs of distress.

Plants that are in pots can be relocated to shadier areas of the garden to avoid further stress.

The largest plant for some garden owners is their lawn so try not to cut it too short. You need to be aiming for an overall height of between 3-4 inches to avoid rapid water evaporation and browning that will lead to longer lasting damage and possibly die off altogether. A good tip is to leave the grass collection bag off or use a mulching plug if you have one and allow the grass cuttings to return moisture and minerals back to the soil.

Water your lawn as you would your plants during the hot longer spells, earlier in the morning or later in the evening 😎.

It's been a hot day out and about and some gardens are in need of a good watering either late on in the evening or early morning. This will help your plants take up much needed water before evaporation begins and prevent scorched leaves 🌻🌻🌻
