A handrail is a simple detail. Getting it right isn’t always quite so simple.

A recent project for a lovely young family over in Brighouse, fitting new square-profile oak handrails across this two-flight staircase, finished with black brackets for a clean, understated contrast.

Before drilling, we set the height with the customer and agreed the position. The fixing method then changed depending on what was behind the wall, using timber backing through the metal stud sections and fixing back to masonry elsewhere.

It’s the part you don’t see once the job is finished, but it matters. The handrail needs to feel solid without damaging the plasterboard around it.

The finished result is clean, secure and exactly where the customer wanted it.

Good joinery isn’t just about what you can see.

Pleased to have supported the tender-stage planning for a proposed school refurbishment project at High Peak School, Stockport, earlier this summer.

A good opportunity to review the scope, consider buildability and contribute to the early pre-construction process alongside a strong team.

Wishing Stirlin Developments, Kedleston Group and the wider project team every success as the refurbishment progresses.

A family came to us after Mr Fox had already taken two of their chickens.
They had a clear idea of what they wanted, and our job was to listen properly, take that on board and build something that would keep the chickens safer without taking over the garden.

We wrapped a new timber run around their existing coop, giving the birds plenty of space in the day and a secure, enclosed area for when the fox is about.

The nicest part is that the finishing touches are now down to the son and daughter — adding feeders, toys and their own little details inside the run at their leisure, so it feels like their space to look after.

For us it was about more than just building a run. It was about solving a real problem, giving the family a bit more peace of mind and leaving them with something solid they can make their own.
