This has been such a great project to work on with the , 2 x 12Kw .uk aroTHERM Plus heat pumps providing heating to an old farm conversion. With full remote monitoring, we can't wait to see the efficiencies of the system once winter sets in.

A wonderful project that we are proud to have worked on.

Welcome to the third and final part of our trilogy "The Technology, How It Works" today we are looking at Solar Panels.

Did you know that enough energy radiates from the sun every hour to power the planet for an entire year? We just need to capture and harness this energy!

More and more homes and businesses are using Solar PV (photovoltaic) technology. Each panel houses PV cells that convert energy from the sun’s photons into a direct electrical current (DC). This is then inverted to AC (alternating current) electricity and used to power appliances inside homes, factories, offices, and estates.

Once Solar PV is installed, it can be controlled and channelled throughout your property to specific areas using a simple, easy-to-use phone app. Extra electricity can be stored in batteries to be used when the sun goes down or fed back to the National Grid for financial gain, making it a great way to keep your energy bill costs down.

Your Baystar technician can also install an EV (electric vehicle) charging point that draws power directly from your Solar PV array, looking after your home and company travel finances too.

Part two of our "The Technology, How it Works" trilogy

yesterday we looked at Air Source Heat Pumps, today we'll be having a look at its big brother, the Ground Source Heat Pump, these are usually serve much larger buildings and have been installed as communal for multiple buildings or apartments depending on the requirements of each site.

Essentially, a Ground Source Heat Pump works like a ‘reverse refrigerator’, taking low grade heat from either the ground or body of water, and turning into usable heat within the home.

There are two main types of ground source, horizontal systems and vertical borehole systems, and the concept of both is the same. Using the year-round solar gain of the sun, the ground underneath your property acts like a solar heat battery, with an average temperature of around 12C. This temperature is high enough to heat a mixture of water and antifreeze running through a closed pipe system laid within the subsoil by Baystar. A heat exchanger uses this liquid to evaporate a more unstable, refrigerant liquid, similar to the one used in domestic and commercial fridges. The evaporated refrigerant is compressed inside the Heat Pump, raising its temperature much higher. A heat exchanger then ‘robs’ this higher heat, transferring it into your building’s internal network, powering radiators and underfloor heating systems, and delivering piping hot running water.

Whether you have a horizontal or vertical ground source system put in place will depend on the space available around your property, but both are very similar in performance.
