The Ribbon: from the original CGI to the completed project.
It’s always rewarding to look back at the original visuals and see how they compare with the finished building. In this case, the two views are from almost exactly the same angle.

Vision Arch delivered the design, supply, and installation of the building’s high-performance façades and openings, including curtain walling, fixed windows installed into precast concrete panels, sliding and bi-fold doors, copper dormer surrounds and plant screens. The project also included a number of complex façade interfaces, with curved-on-plan curtain walling, tight radii and feature arched window heads.

A great example of taking a detailed design from CGI through to the finished building.

🌿 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐦 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐡 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲. After five years of restoration, this incredible part of Edinburgh’s heritage is welcoming visitors again.

We’re proud to have been part of the project, delivering the specialist glazing works, replacing more than 5,000 panes of glass, and structurally silicone-sealing all units to the existing refurbished iron structure. Working on heritage buildings like this requires a real understanding of how to work with historic structures, materials, and details. It’s an area of work we have built extensive experience in at Vision Arch, and the Palm Houses are a great example of what that involves.

For us, these words reflect how we believe a project partnership should work: showing up, taking ownership, working through challenges, and doing what is needed to deliver the right result. Working as part of the wider team alongside Multiplex and Piercy&Company, we delivered our scope within a complex cut-and-carve refurbishment, where coordination, flexibility, and attention to detail were critical throughout.

Our team was responsible for designing, supplying, and installing the new contemporary façade to the extended east elevation, alongside extensive fourth-floor additions, a new fifth floor, roof-level extensions, and the replacement of key building entrances.

We were particularly proud of the feedback from Multiplex, recognising our support, commitment, and contribution, and highlighting the collective teamwork and determination that helped bring the project to a successful completion. Because ultimately, the value of a construction partner is also measured by how you work when things get challenging, how you support the wider team, and the confidence others can have in you to deliver.

That’s what we brought to Jahn Court, and that’s what we continue to bring to every project.

✨ Architectural Cladding & Rainscreen
The materials used on a building’s façade play an important role in its appearance, character, and performance. From terracotta and natural stone to brick slips, clay brick baguettes, and GRC, each material brings its own properties and detailing requirements. The supporting systems behind them are just as important as the finished surface.

At Vision Arch, we have experience delivering a wide range of specialist cladding and rainscreen solutions, working with different materials, fixing systems, and façade geometries. Our experience includes terracotta, stone, brick slip, and clay brick baguette systems, alongside the capability to develop solutions for other materials such as GRC. Each project requires a considered approach to the design, detailing, and installation of the system, particularly where different materials and façade elements meet.

At 7 Princes Street, our scope included both terracotta and stone cladding, combining two distinct materials within a complex façade design. At Hanover Bond, clay brick baguettes formed part of the façade, requiring careful attention to the supporting system and the arrangement of the individual elements. At Jahn Court Building in Regent Quarter, our scope included the subframe system supporting zinc rainscreen cladding up to roof level. The project required careful consideration of the supporting structure and the detailing needed to accommodate the rainscreen system across the building.

These projects demonstrate the range of materials and approaches involved in architectural cladding and rainscreen systems. Whether working with established materials or developing solutions for new applications, our focus is on creating façade systems that respond to the architectural design and the technical demands of the building.

A new acoustic glazing installation at Coventry City Football Club’s stadium, completed in time for the club’s return to the Premier League. The project included a 5m x 2.1m triple-glazed acoustic panel, weighing approximately 1,600kg. Taking the project from a very basic concept through to the finished installation was a great effort from everyone involved.

Now the room is complete and has been used during a live game, the acoustic performance has proven excellent, with the sound deadening working exactly as required. And now, when matches are broadcast live from the stadium, you can see the finished installation in action.

A big thank you to Coventry City Football Club and The Ideal Group for the collaboration throughout the project. Great teamwork from everyone involved in bringing the concept through to the finished installation.

Earlier this month, we brought everyone together for our Annual Company BBQ, giving us a chance to step away from the daily routine, enjoy some delicious food, and spend quality time together. It was a wonderful reminder that our people are at the heart of everything we do.

We’re delighted to see that the Palm Houses at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh have been shortlisted for the Edinburgh Architectural Association Large Projects Award.

The restoration of these two remarkable Victorian glasshouses has been a complex conservation project, bringing together historic fabric, specialist glazing, and the very particular requirements of a living plant collection.

As part of the iconic Edinburgh Biomes project, our team led the restoration of the historic Victorian Palm Houses and 1960s Front-Range Glasshouses, carefully balancing the conservation of these much-loved structures with the demands of a modern botanical garden. A key part of the work was replacing more than 5,000 panes of glass and structurally silicone-sealing each unit to the existing, refurbished iron structure.

We’re incredibly proud to see the project recognised by the EAA and grateful to everyone involved in delivering such an ambitious piece of conservation work. Congratulations to Smith Scott Mullan and all the shortlisted practices, and good luck with the awards!

On-site installation training has taken place at our London School of Economics (LSE) project, with Raico delivering specialist training on the internal fire-rated atrium system and rooflight. The session brought together teams from Vision Arch, MBS and McLaren, providing valuable technical guidance and ensuring everyone involved has a clear understanding of the installation requirements for this complex Raico system.

Successful delivery of specialist façade systems relies on strong collaboration, knowledge sharing and attention to detail throughout the project lifecycle. We’re pleased to be working alongside such an experienced team and look forward to seeing the atrium installation progress on site.
