Tonight, Happiness Hanging Hearts received its first bout of Internet negativity.
As I usually do, I shared in the local group the location of the heart so it could be found and in hopes that the finder comments.
Although I got a lot of positive feedback. I also got a few negative comments.
These people deemed the hearts pure litter, danger to wildlife and an eyesore on the landscape. One person even accused me of stealing people's money and charging for the hearts and then proceeded to say that giving them away for free was silly.
I defended Happiness Hanging Hearts, explaining the story, how they are made from recycled materials. And that yes, you can buy Heart Decorations from our shop, however, these hearts are different from them and are a completely separate project.
I said how the heart was the only one placed within that location and how it had already been found. Whatever the person who found it decides to do with it is up to them, whether they keep it, gift it, or rehide it.
Eventually, admins deleted the post and from what I can see I have been removed from the group.
Although the negativity received has upset me, it has not discouraged me, in a way it had somewhat encouraged me to carry on and try and spread even more tiny bits of happiness. But I must admit that tonight I sit at my sewing machine very disheartened.
I have wrote this post in order to raise awareness of how the words you write on someone's post can effect another person in the world. To you, you may be typing to just a screen, but there is someone on another screen receiving your negativity and critisms.
Happiness Hanging Hearts was created to spread a tiny bit of happiness into a person's life. And tonight, it saddens me to think that a heart has actually caused upset and anger to people.
Tomorrow, hearts will be placed around HHH usual haunts. West Hallam and Mapperley. I hope these hearts bring a smile to whomever finds them. Just how our other local happiness creators do.
Dragonglass, Mapperley Gnomes, Bottled Bees. You are an inspiration to me and I hope one day I get to meet you all personally and give you your own hearts π
