Always love visiting Babylonstoren when we visit the Cape. The gardens are stunningly beautiful. Amazing lunch at Babel sampling freshly grown produce from the gardens. Takes me back to RHS Chelsea 2025 when we were drinking their wines in the sun, enjoying a great time with Constance.

Thought I’d share a design I’m currently working on for a family garden in Berkshire inspired by memories of the South African Cape.

The wrap around garden is a blank canvas and features 3 majestic Scots Pines which were once common place in the area. The design looks to evoke deep and meaningful memories of the Cape landscape for the family reimagined for the local climate. A garden to explore, discover, entertain and relax within.

I often work in an iterative way with my clients so the design meets their expectations discussing and updating plans as we go along. I find this delivers a great end result.

Looking forward to sharing more imagery as the garden develops.

One of my current projects has reached the planting stage. A beautiful, character home near St Albans Cathedral in need of a new planting design and general makeover. A desire for a low maintenance design, requiring limited work and providing colour, year-round interest and fragrance for a couple who want to enjoy their garden and not spend their lives working in it! A garden which will look after itself once established.

The design is loosely based on a perennial meadow with similar height perennials creating a beautiful interlocking mosaic delivering everything the client has asked for. Can’t wait to get the 1200+ plants in the ground and watch the garden develop next year.
