Where would Southern Area Brickwork be without Joe?!

Joe joined us nearly 20 years ago as a hod carrier, and today he’s our Projects Director. What a journey! 👏

But Joe is so much more than his job title. He’s a leader to our apprentices, everyone’s go-to for advice, a friendly chat or a bit of banter! 😂 He’s someone people can rely on, learn from and have a laugh with — and that’s what makes him such a valued part of the team.

🧱 He’s the sand to our cement, the bond that holds us together… although sometimes we’re not sure if he’s here to build the team up or take the mick out of everyone! 🤣

Jokes aside, Joe leads by example and has an incredible work ethic. You can learn a lot on the job, but that level of dedication? If you’re lucky, you can develop it — but if you’re really lucky, you’re born with it. Joe definitely falls into the latter category. 🌟

Everyone at Southern Area Brickwork has huge respect for Joe, but no one more so than Tony. He’s been Tony’s right-hand man for years, and that speaks volumes about the trust, loyalty and respect between them. ❤️

Joe, thank you for everything you’ve done over the years and everything you continue to bring to the business. We’re incredibly lucky to have you on the team, and we hope you know just how much you’re appreciated.

🧱 Half a day’s work from the team!

Two bricklayers and a labourer helping out a busy local builder on the start of a single-storey extension.

We were happy to lend a hand and get the brickwork underway, making good progress in just half a day. 💪

The extension is still ongoing, but these photos show what we managed to get done in our first few hours on site.

We’re always happy to help keep local building projects moving when an extra pair of hands is needed.🤝

A look at the front and rear elevations of these two new-build properties, where we completed the brickwork and supplied all materials from the ground up. 😍

A traditional design with plenty of brickwork detailing throughout, including feature bay windows, decorative bands and brick detailing around the openings.

Another pair of new homes brought to life with quality brickwork. 👌

Surrey Project | First Lift Complete 🧱

Progress is moving along nicely on our latest project in Surrey, which we started last month.

The first lift of blockwork is now complete, with the building ready for the next stage — external scaffolding.

It’s been a while since we’ve posted about our painting & decorating services, so here’s a look at a recent oak balcony we installed, prepped & painted 👌🏼

🪵 First we rubbed down & prepared the oak, opening the grain with a copper brush

🎨 Then two coats of colour applied with a dragging brush

🔧 Once fully dry, we filled all holes with a flexible product designed to move with the oak

✨ Light rub down, then two coats of UV oil, with a light rub between coats

Why fill after staining? Bare oak needs to be coated first — filling holes beforehand can affect the staining process and leave an uneven finish.

The right preparation and products make all the difference. 👌🏼

Happy Birthday, Tony! 🎉

Yesterday we celebrated a milestone birthday for our Managing Director & Owner, Tony — and what better time to recognise everything he has achieved.

With Southern Area Brickwork Ltd coming up to its 20th year, it’s a huge achievement and a true reflection of Tony’s hard work, determination and commitment over the years. He has built a strong, respected firm with a valuable reputation — one that we are all extremely proud to be part of.

There have been plenty of challenges and hard times along the way, but Tony has always pushed through, kept going and come out stronger each time. His resilience, determination and belief in the business have helped shape Southern Area Brickwork into the company it is today.

We’re incredibly proud of what Tony has created and everything he continues to achieve, and he should be extremely proud of himself and what he’s built.
