So on Aug 12th Grayshott Gardeners enjoyed an informative talk by Tim Ingram, accompanied by his wife Gillian (chief propagator!) on ’Alpines and Perennials for Dry Gardens'. There were plants to buy and lots of recommendations for plants that enjoy the weather we are currently experiencing.

A great turnout considering there was an eclipse. Sue Wheeler was there with her trusty colander and Diana Pont kindly bought some glasses so we could all have a chance of seeing the phenomenon - turned out there was a great view just outside the Village Hall.

Stop Press: Harry can no longer attend so his Head of Department Emma Lainchbury will attend on his behalf.

Grayshott Gardeners is delighted to welcome Harry Baldwin as our speaker in September. Harry is Head Gardener at the Newt in Somerset, having previously worked at Borde Hill and The Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew where he received a 2015 - 2018 Diploma in Botanical Horticulture. The Newt, a luxury hotel/spa and garden experience has been developed on the estate at Hadspen House. Hadspen House was made famous by its extensive and beautiful gardens, developed in the 20th century by owner and garden designer Penelope Hobhouse and later the horticulturalists Nori and Sandra Pope. Harry is here to tell us more about the transition.

So it was with some trepidation that the Club opened it's doors for our Summer Show on Saturday 11th... Would our members be able to find any flowers and veg in their parched gardens, would the community venture out in the heat or drag themselves away from all the sporting events on the telly! We needn't have worried... Our members did us proud with a grand total of 253 exhibits - much admired by the judges and of course by our lovely community who turned up to join in the fun - amazing! Thank you all! A special thank you to all the committee members and volunteers that helped out on the day, plant sales, cake sales, tombola, setting up the hall etc and to the local scouts who stayed on to help us clear up - what a difference that made to a lot of exhausted exhibitors. Here's a photo of our proud prize winners with a special shout out to Alison Lang who pulled off a hat trick including Best In Show - it's not often that the judge awards this to a vegetable category so well done Alison!

Well we were treated to a wonderful and very amusing talk on 8th July by Timothy Walker entitled 'Bordering on Insanity'. Loads of suggestions for plants to create an all year round border. Thanks to all our members who turned up on such a sweltering evening... definitely worth the effort! Timothy seen here with President, Gordon Rae and Programme Mgr, Sue Wheeler.

It was our second visit to Pepperpot Herb Nursery in Alton... it was a baking hot day but we were undeterred ... Two groups were given a tour by the lovely owners Neil and Catherine Wallsgrove. It really is worth a visit - for those of you who were unable to attend, the nursery is open Monday to Friday for retail sales and there will be a small selection for sale at our Summer Show.
