✨ PROJECT COMPLETE | BESPOKE COVERED PERGOLA ✨

Another project complete, taking an existing open patio and turning it into a bespoke covered outdoor living space designed to be enjoyed throughout the year.

As with many of my projects, this one started well before any timber arrived on site. The project first went through a design stage, working with the clients to develop a pergola that suited how they wanted to use the space while also working around the existing layout and character of the property.

The finished design creates dedicated areas for both outdoor dining and relaxing, with a clear covered roof providing shelter from the elements while still allowing plenty of natural light into the patio and surrounding rooms.

One of the main features of the design was the use of large, chunky timber posts and beams. These give the pergola a much more substantial feel and make the structure a real feature of the garden rather than simply adding a lightweight cover over the patio.

The finish of the timber was also carefully considered. A selection of stains were sampled and tested beforehand, giving the clients the opportunity to see how the different finishes looked on the actual timber before making their final choice.

Traditional-style bracing and timber detailing were then incorporated to finish the structure and add some extra character to the overall design.

It’s great seeing another project go from the initial design stage through to the finished build, creating something completely bespoke for the clients and the space they have.

🚐 Van Signwriting Complete!

Really pleased to finally have the van fully branded up for RD Bespoke Landscapes – Design and Build 🌿

A massive thank you to Fantasy Prints for doing such a brilliant job with the signwriting and bringing the design to life. The finish has turned out exactly how I wanted it and has completely transformed the look of the van.

It’s great to have the van properly representing the business while I’m out working and travelling between jobs.

🏡 DRIVEWAY PROJECT — PROGRESS UPDATE

A big transformation taking shape on this project!

Following on from my previous post, where the existing driveway was excavated and all of the groundwork was completed, the last couple of weeks have been all about getting the new driveway installed and bringing the design together.

Since the last update I’ve:

▪️ Completed the final preparation and levels ready for paving
▪️ Installed new drainage across the driveway
▪️ Laid the new block paving in a herringbone pattern
▪️ Added a contrasting dark border to frame the driveway and work around the shape of the property
▪️ Carefully cut and finished the paving around the house, entrances and existing features
▪️ Continued the paving through to the rear area
▪️ Worked the design around the existing tree and gabion stone features
▪️ Finished off the driveway entrance and transitions to the surrounding surfaces

It’s been great seeing this one come together after the amount of groundwork that went into getting to this stage. The contrasting border really helps define the different areas and adds that extra bit of detail to what is a sizeable driveway.

There are still a few finishing touches to complete, but it’s already a huge change from where this project started.

This week has been all about the groundwork – and as always, that’s where the quality of the finished job starts.

Here’s a look at the progress we’ve made over the last few days:

✅ Lifted and removed the existing pathway
✅ Removed approximately 24 tonnes of rubble and soil
✅ Broke up and removed the existing concrete driveway – around 9m³ of concrete in total
✅ Safely dismantled and removed an unsafe existing brick wall that also had no foundations
✅ Underpinned the retaining wall below ground level and poured new foundations ready for the replacement wall
✅ Laid and levelled the hardcore sub-base
✅ Installed concrete edging where the driveway meets the public footpath
✅ Set the first course of block paving in concrete to establish accurate levels
✅ Spread and graded the laying sand, ready for the block paving installation

One of the biggest challenges on this project was the existing concrete driveway. We knew it had to come out, but we certainly didn’t expect it to be as thick and as tough as it turned out to be! It was solid throughout, so we had to bring in a larger excavator to break through it and keep the project moving. It’s one of those jobs where you don’t always know exactly what lies beneath until you start digging, but we adapted and got it done.

A massive thank you also goes to my good friend Jock for coming in and helping me push through this week. His experience on the digger has been invaluable, and it’s been a huge help getting us to where we are now. Really appreciate your hard work, mate! 👏

The transformation is only just beginning, and I can’t wait to show you how this one turns out. Keep an eye on the page over the coming weeks as I’ll be sharing photos from each stage of the project.

A little something different from my usual landscaping projects today… 🌊🔨

I was asked to help Sea the Change by sorting out beach hut doors that had become difficult to open and were catching badly. After a few adjustments and repairs, they’re now opening and closing exactly as they should.

Sea the Change is a fantastic local charity based in Eyemouth that works to make the coast and countryside more accessible and inclusive for everyone. From providing beach wheelchairs and promoting active travel to delivering community projects and environmental initiatives, they do an incredible job supporting both local people and visitors alike.

It’s a privilege to be able to support such a worthwhile organisation, no matter how big or small the task. This is just the beginning too, and I’m looking forward to working with the team on several exciting projects over the coming months.
