SOLA Motion | Gloucester, Gloucestershire

A smart, modern addition to this Gloucester garden. Our SOLA Motion aluminium pergola, finished in Jet Black (RAL 9005), measures 4m x 3.5m and combines clean architectural lines with practical features designed to make outdoor living more enjoyable.

But this installation required a little more thought than usual.

With the garage roof soffit restricting the available height, we needed to maximise headroom without compromising the functionality of the pergola. The finished underside of the beam sits at 2.19m, providing a practical walkthrough height while keeping the structure neatly tucked beneath the existing roofline.

To prevent the opening roof louvres from clashing with the garage soffit, we adapted the roof operation by disconnecting and fixing the first louvre in position. A tailored solution that allowed us to work around the building’s limitations and achieve a clean, considered finish.

The finished installation includes:

▪️ SOLA Motion aluminium pergola
▪️ 4m x 3.5m footprint
▪️ Jet Black RAL 9005 finish
▪️ Integrated warm white LED lighting
▪️ Privacy screen for added shelter and seclusion

Every garden presents its own challenges, and thoughtful planning makes all the difference.

Designed around the details. Built to overcome the challenges.

This SOLA Pro in Malvern is a great example of why every installation needs to be considered on its own merits.

This particular configuration required a corner-mounted installation, with the pergola fixed to the property on two sides and supported by just a single front post.

That creates a couple of important questions before installation:

Is the property square and level?
And perhaps more importantly, how do you effectively manage the rainwater when there’s only one post available for drainage?

Thankfully, the property was both square and level, making the installation itself a smooth one.

For the drainage, we introduced a secondary ‘backup’ downpipe. The primary drainage remains within the single post, while the additional downpipe provides extra capacity should the system need to handle a particularly heavy downpour.

It’s a relatively simple solution, but one that gives additional reassurance when designing a configuration where all of the roof water is being directed towards a single post.

Another SOLA Pro completed, and another bespoke installation solution delivered.

Another project signed off and completed.

Yesterday, we were back at Kober in beautiful Padstow, Cornwall, making a few important adjustments to our 7.5m x 4m SOLA Pro.

When the pergola was originally ordered, the property was still under construction, so the final position of the large patio doors wasn’t something we could account for. Once everything was finished, it became clear that the original post layout left one of the pergola posts sitting directly in front of the large middle window — interrupting the view out across the garden and surrounding Cornish landscape.

Our team returned yesterday to put that right.

We removed the offending post and installed a pair of colour-matched posts, carefully positioned to align with the patio door frame. The result is a much cleaner finish, improved sightlines from inside the property and, most importantly, the look our clients had originally envisaged.

The pergola sits beautifully alongside the Millboard decking, creating a seamless outdoor living space that makes the most of Kober’s incredible setting.

And there’s even better news…

Kober is now open for bookings through Unique Homestays

If you’re looking for a luxury Cornish escape in an incredible coastal setting, it’s well worth taking a look at the property in more detail.

The best gardens don’t stop being useful when the sun goes down.

Installed this week in North London, this beautiful outdoor living space shows exactly how a pergola can transform a garden from a daytime retreat into an atmospheric evening destination.

As natural light fades, integrated lighting takes over — illuminating the roof, landscaping and surrounding garden with a warm, inviting glow. Perfect for evening dining, entertaining friends or simply enjoying the garden long after sunset.

Supplied to our loyal trade partner Studio Verdant Design - Sam Moore , this project is a great example of what happens when landscape design, lighting and outdoor living are considered as one.

Bespoke design. Precision engineering. Built to fit.

This stunning 4m x 4m SOLA Motion installation in Gloucester demonstrates exactly what we mean by bespoke outdoor living.

Positioned between two existing garden rooms, the challenge was that the walls weren’t perfectly square to one another — leaving an irregular gap (at its widest measuring 30cm!) between the pergola structure and the building

Rather than compromise the finish, we designed and installed a wedge shaped bespoke aluminium profile specifically to follow the shape of the space, creating a clean, precise transition between the SOLA Motion pergola and the existing garden rooms.

Finished in Traffic Grey, this 4m x 4m aluminium pergola also features integrated warm white LED lighting, operated via a Somfy remote, creating the perfect atmosphere long after the sun goes down.

A great example of how a SOLA pergola can be engineered around the existing architecture of your home — rather than forcing the space to fit the pergola.
