Looking back through some of our projects, we’ve been fortunate to work in so many special places. Private homes, commercial spaces and projects overseas, each one has brought something different to the workshop.

That variety is something we’ve always enjoyed. One moment we might be working through the finer details of a balustrade for a private home, the next we’re tackling something on a much bigger scale. There isn’t really a standard approach, because every building and every brief is different.

It’s taken us to places we probably wouldn’t have imagined when Burvills first started, and we’re proud to see our metalwork becoming a small part of so many different buildings and places.

Delivering bespoke architectural packages for commercial environments requires a fundamentally different mindset than residential design. Beyond the aesthetic, every commercial build is a high-stakes balancing act of structural engineering, regulatory compliance, and tight timelines.

The journey starts long before installation - navigating early planning, statutory licensing, and aligning a complex network of stakeholders, from main contractors to client boards.

Once off-site fabrication is complete, site ex*****on becomes a precise choreography. Installing heavy, bespoke elements within active commercial sites - around mast climbers, access windows, and strict contractor sequences - demands total precision through to final handover and launch.

Cutting, forming, welding and finishing – all these steps take place before architectural metalwork makes it to site. Material is formed, finished and joined together, with every joint, tolerance and finish taken into consideration. A lot of this effort goes unnoticed once the project is complete. What remains is the fine workmanship - metalwork that seems to have always been there.

63 bespoke balconies, custom-designed, fabricated, and installed for Shootersway, a residential complex in Berkhamsted.

This included the delivery of the entire balcony solution, which comprised the sub-frame structure, balustrades, and decking system.

Every single component was created to not only fulfil structural criteria but also achieve an architectural finish.

Planning and phased installation ensured that the balconies were installed efficiently within the construction program - a robust solution providing outdoor living space that complements the architectural style of the development.
