Every project starts the same way for us: we listen. To the client, to the community, to the site itself, before a single line gets drawn. August in lots of places means public spaces are working harder than ever - pavements become performance venues, parks fill with people, and streets turn into stages. It's a brilliant reminder of why we design public realm to flex, not just to look good on a rendering. Well-designed space should be able to hold a festival crowd in August AND a quiet Tuesday in November.

🌱 It's National Allotments Week (10–16 August), and we're celebrating the power of shared growing spaces to bring communities together.

Our Knocknagael Green Hub project in Inverness is a great example: transforming a former agricultural field into a network of individual and shared allotments, complete with wheelchair-accessible raised beds, rainwater harvesting, composting areas and native hedgerows to support pollinators and wildlife.

Driven by a decade of community commitment, the Green Hub will give local residents the chance to grow their own food, connect with nature and build stronger social ties.

This is placemaking at its best: designing spaces that nourish both people and planet. 🌍

Not every safe cycle route looks the same 🚲

For our Dunbar NCN Realignment project, we explored three different approaches to give people of all ages and abilities a safer way to get around: shared use paths, traffic-free routes and fully segregated provision. Working with East Lothian Council, our proposals aim to open up National Cycle Network 76 to everyone - not just confident cyclists.

How we work at Iglu, from first conversation to finished place 🌍

LISTEN. Every project starts by listening. To the client, to the community, to the site itself.
SEE. We spend time on-site, watching how people actually use and move through a place.
THINK. Space to develop, explore, examine and test ideas properly.
DRAW. By hand, by computer, or a mix of both - whatever helps bring the proposals to life for everyone.
MAKE. We model, build and get stuck in on the ground to see it through.

It's a process built on paying attention - to people and place - before we ever put pen to paper.
