Artist in the Landscape : Roberta MacRae Roberta MacRae is an Australian artist living and working in Scotland, whose work reflects her love of the Scottish landscape.

She majored in painting and ceramics at RCAE in Australia, and subsequently took degrees in literature, librarianship and computing. She followed several professions in librarianship, education and IT before moving to Scotland to work in IT. MacRae then pursued further study in life drawing and painting at Leith School of Art and now works as a full time artist, exhibiting in Scotland. She has exh

ibited at a number of Scottish galleries and institutions, including the SSA at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Paisley Art Institute, the Burnside Gallery, Brodick, the Gladstone Gallery, Edinburgh (Edinburgh Fringe 2009) and the Airport Gallery, Edinburgh. MacRae’s work is known for vibrancy of colour and mood, and for being based on intense observation and research. She is strongly influenced by Expressionism and Abstract Expressionist artists in particular including Nolde, Rothko and Po***ck. Her en plein air landscapes are executed swiftly and energetically in the Scottish environment, mainly in the Scottish islands. Her studio work is slower, more layered, and based on research, studies, dreams, and stream of consciousness.
