The first job I posted when I finally started my Facebook business page 15 years ago!

It was alot harder back then building a reputation before social media.. how did we find work??

When working on the building sites it was easy, you literally drove around the city looking for building sites, walked on, asked if they were looking for brickies..

Yes - What's the rates?
No - you moved on to the next one!

But when moving into residential, private work, house extensions, garden walls, driveways & Patios etc...

You had to..

🟢 Take out Evening news adverts.
🟢 Take out Daily record adverts (if you could afford it!)
🟢 Leave business cards everywhere! Local shops, pinboards, merchants, supermarkets etc..
🟢 Advertising boards tied to fences in random places until ripped down or vandalised.
🟢 Flyers door to door.
🟢 Build connections with other tradesmen (in person!)
🟢 Build relationships with merchants( in person!)
🟢 Drive around getting your sign written van out there.
🟢 Spreading the word through family and friends (with alot of "love jobs" along the way!)

And even then, the potential customer used to actually phone the job references and physically go visit the jobs you have done.

You quickly learn that taking pride in your work earns you your reputation.

Kids these days don't know how lucky they've got it! 😂

From a rough sketch to reality!

Anstone steps with buff porcelain slabs.

Sometimes it's hard for customers to visualise the outcome of what they want or picture it in their own mind from a drawing (especially my drawings!) But after doing this for so many years, I can visualise it, build it, and bring it to life!

There is alot of unseen work that goes into steps when they are built properly 😉

Point up slabs and tidy up around will finish it off tomorrow.
