🌳 Tree roots vs. cast iron downpipe – the roots lost! 💪

What looked like a simple blocked downpipe turned out to be a much bigger issue. Tree roots had found their way into an old cast iron rainwater pipe, growing through damaged joints and completely blocking the system.

Our team carefully removed the roots, cleared the obstruction, and prepared the damaged sections for repair, restoring the free flow of rainwater and preventing further water damage to the property.

Older cast iron drainage systems are particularly vulnerable to root ingress, especially where cracks or failed joints have developed over time. Catching the problem early can save you from expensive repairs down the line.

Another heritage roofing project completed with attention to detail from top to bottom.

✅ New CUPA Heavy Natural Slate roof, expertly laid to preserve the building’s traditional character.
✅ New lead flashings and soakers around the chimney and roof details for long-lasting weather protection.
✅ Lime rendering to the chimney stack using breathable traditional materials, ensuring the masonry can perform as intended while maintaining its original appearance.

Another slate roof brought back to life in Edinburgh. 🏠🔨

Our team recently carried out a full replacement on this traditional Scottish slate roof. Over time a number of slates had slipped and deteriorated, which can quickly lead to water ingress if left untreated.

Work completed on this property included:
• Careful removal of damaged and loose slates
• Replacement with new slates
• Installation of soakers to abutments and new lead hidden watergate #
• New cement skews installed for long-term weather protection
• Chimney repointed using lime mortar to allow the stonework to breathe and remain structurally sound

The finished result keeps the roof watertight while preserving the character of the building. Proper slate repairs and traditional lime pointing are essential on older Edinburgh properties to ensure longevity and avoid bigger problems down the line.
