Choosing between timber and composite decking isn’t about right or wrong — it’s about what suits your garden, your budget and how much maintenance you want to take on.
Timber decking brings natural warmth and character, can often be repaired or refreshed, and usually comes in at a lower upfront cost.
Composite decking gives a cleaner, more uniform look with lower day-to-day maintenance, but it normally costs more to install.
Both can work brilliantly when they’re built properly.

A good timber deck is about much more than the boards you see on top.
The finish catches the eye, but the frame underneath is what decides whether it stays solid, level and built to last.
That means using the right structural timber, keeping joist spacing correct, using exterior-grade fixings, and making sure drainage and airflow protect the frame over time.
Built properly, timber decking brings warmth, character and real longevity to an outdoor space.

Composite decking is a great choice when you want a clean, modern finish with less ongoing maintenance.
But the boards are only part of the job. Correct support spacing, proper expansion gaps, drainage and airflow underneath still matter if you want the deck to stay looking good and performing properly for years.
This one gives a crisp, low-maintenance finish that works beautifully with the garden and house.

But gardens rarely work like that.
A custom log store can turn an awkward side return, narrow gap or wasted corner into something genuinely useful — built to fit the space you actually have, and tailored around how you want to use it.
Want a separate kindling bay? More capacity? A specific height or depth? No problem.

I build them using 3x2 timber framing with feather edge cladding as standard, with T&G available if preferred. Sizes, layout, roof style and extras like kindling bays can all be tailored to suit your garden and how you actually use the space.
