When replacing outside mains lamps in ex council properties, check the weather sealant between your lamp and the building, if its failed you have to take extra care when replacing, you may be dealing with a rusty pipe thats cut through the live wire leaving you (or a handyman like me) with very little wire to work with

high quality external masonry work:

1 strip back loose paint and failed render
2 fill with rock solid masonry filler
3 then we use skim filler on all stripped paint
4 wait to dry and sand then the tree coats of paint.

The whole process can take three days

or you can just slap a thick layer of masonry paint on your wall for a hail mary >
