Occasionally we do get to do work on our own home. We have an unusual very modern house, cedar clad and on stilts. We absolutely love it and Roger has been busy with some necessary maintenance. The original owners sadly got carried away with layers of Osmo oil which started to peel off earlier this year and itcwas looking tatty. We took advice from Osmo and spent a very hot week or two sanding the whole house back in May. We then left it to settle and are now applying an oil stain from Osmo. It's looking amazing already and it's due a second coat yet.

We have finished a garden makeover project this week which involved temperatures in previous weeks that almost broke us, however we are very pleased with the end result, as is the client (luckily!) We supplied and installed Mint Fossil Indian sandstone paths around the house and garden and a small seating area, with matching cobblestone edging. A new border flower bed edged in brown Everedge ready for her to plant up and new lawns both front and back. We also mended and strengthened her fence, fitted guttering and a water butt to her swanky new Crane Garden Buildings shed after chatting about the current drought and harvesting water (when it does eventually decide to rain) and dug a pipe in underground for the electrician to run his cables through to get to the shed without digging up any of our work! Hopefully the 28 days exception to the hosepipe ban for new lawns is long enough for them to establish and survive 🤞

We installed a concrete base for a client a few months ago and he got us back this week to finish off the area with an Autumn Brown Indian sandstone patio in front of his swanky new Crane Garden Buildings shed. It's lovely to see the building up and the garden exactly as he wanted it. The whole area has been transformed!

If you are thinking about a lovely new shed, summerhouse or garden office it is really important that you get the basics right in order to protect the longevity of the building. We offer a base installation service where we provide a flat, level, reinforced concrete base that is clad with timber to make it look more attractive. We reinforce with steel rebar mesh and add fibres to the mix to reduce cracking. We include a damp proof membrane and finish off with a gravel 'French drain' surround to aid drainage and limit dirt splashing back onto the bottom of the building cladding. The solid base helps reduce the likelihood of rodents taking up residence too. You don't want to be sharing your lovely building with rats!

We make the bases the same size as the floor of the building so that rain drops run off the cladding and drip past the base and avoids water sitting beneath the bearers making them less likely to rot.

The photos are a selction of bases recently installed for Crane Garden Buildings who sub-contract us to supply concrete bases for them. We are independent however so if you have a building coming from alternative suppliers and need a decent base please do get in touch.

A recent job to smarten up the front of a repeat customer's house where we installed a low picket fence to keep the dog in, a small sleeper retaining wall and dug out the old gravel then replaced it with some to match the colour tones of the brickwork.

We are so lucky that our own garden has numerous different styles, depending on the aspect and position. This time of year is especially pretty with the flowers doing their thing whether it's the vegetables flowering before developing their precious crops, the roses and pots giving a burst of glorious colour and scents, the salvias feeding the numerous bees, or our own wild garden with the cow parsley, ox-eye daisies and forget-me-nots giving an unintentional nod to Chelsea Flower Show in recent years. It genuinely is my happy place.
