Treasure in a tin - What a day!

Sometimes a day at work brings some real unexpected pleasure.

I just happened to be on site at Manley Park Primary School in Chorlton a few days ago, when something amazing occurred that I have never witnessed before.

Whilst digging out an area to make a new ‘construction’ zone for Manley’s reception class, one of our team unearthed a time capsule from 2014. It is incredible to see how something so simple created so much excitement, a small metal tin only slightly damaged by the excavator that unearthed it, contained messages from a class 12 years ago, with almost all still legible. The children who wrote those messages now old enough to drive a car!

As it brought us all so much pleasure and in realising that the tin only just managed to preserve the precious contents, I though we should get some more in the ground. We are going to give away 2 metal time capsules and will even help bury them in the hope they too can bring extra joy to other people as we did at Manley Park Primary.

Tell us about your ideas for a time capsule and we will pick the 2 most innovative and present each with their own time capsule.

The water resistant capsule will measure 34cm long and 10cm in diameter, more than enough space for a class full of memories. Notes from the children or even the Head Teacher or current trends like a fidget toy. It just needs to fit!
