🌳 TIP OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER 🍂

Autumn is here! And as the leaves start to change and gardens take on their autumn colours, it’s also a great time to think about planting for the future. 🌿

🌳 Our tip this month: Give your trees room to grow

The small tree you plant today could become a much bigger tree than you expect in years to come.

Before planting, think about:
🏡 How close it is to your house or buildings
🌿 How wide the canopy could eventually become
🌱 How much space the roots will need
☀️ Whether it could eventually shade other areas of your garden
⚡ Its proximity to boundaries, driveways and overhead cables

Choosing the right tree for the right place can save you a lot of maintenance further down the line — and means you can enjoy a healthy, well-positioned tree for many years to come.

So, if you’re planting this autumn, think about the tree it will become, not just the size it is today! 🍂🌳

🌿 A seriously wide hedge that needed some serious trimming! 💪

This large wrap-around conifer hedge had become deep and overgrown, so it needed the top and sides bringing back into shape.

Because the hedge hadn’t been cut from the opposite side, we had to get the long-reach trimmers out to reach right over and make sure we didn’t leave any stragglers hiding at the back! 👌

We also reduced and reshaped the holly tree, bringing it back under control while keeping a natural shape. 🌳

The result? A much cleaner, sharper and more manageable garden boundary.

Another job where a good trim makes a huge difference! 🌿

🌳 A large garden job with a bit of everything! 🌿

This was one of those sites where there was plenty to get stuck into! 👌

We gave this large garden a full tidy-up, including:

🌿 Trimming the tops and sides of all the surrounding hedges
🌳 Reducing and reshaping a holly tree
🌱 Heavily reducing multiple eucalyptus trees
🌳 Trimming several trees at the front of the property
🌿 Giving the hedges along the long driveway a trim
🍂 Clearing away all of our waste, along with the old leaves and garden debris that had built up previously

The result is a garden that feels tidier, more manageable and much more cared for from the house right through to the end of the driveway.

And, as always, we don’t leave the mess behind — everything was cleared away and the site left clean and tidy. 💪

🌳 Subtle reduction, big difference! ☀️

This large tree in Swadlincote needed reducing to allow more sunlight to reach the planted beds beneath it.

Although the reduction looks relatively subtle, it made a significant difference to the amount of light reaching the ground. 🌱

Rather than simply taking height off the tree, we carried out a reduction all around, carefully reshaping the canopy to maintain a balanced, natural shape.

The work also helped minimise some of the gappy, uneven areas that had developed through its previous growth, leaving the tree looking more balanced whilst keeping its overall character.

🌿 This hedge was removed right down to ground level, with all the waste cleared away and the area carefully tidied and prepared.

We then laid extra turf to extend the existing lawn and leave the garden looking neat, open and ready for its next chapter. 🌱

The customer plans to add a more varied selection of plants, so this gives them a lovely clean starting point to work from. 🌸

Another job finished clean, tidy and ready for the customer to make their own! 👌

🌳 From overbearing to beautifully balanced!

This maple tree had become so large that it was starting to dominate the space around it, growing through other plants and becoming increasingly difficult to manage.

It also had some uneven, gappy areas from inconsistent growth, leaving the tree looking out of shape.

A careful reduction all around has:
🌿 Reduced the overall size
🌿 Created a more balanced, natural shape
🌿 Cleared space around the surrounding plants
🌿 Made the tree more manageable for the future

The result is a healthier-looking, more proportionate tree that fits the space much better. 👌

The new homeowner described their garden as an overgrown jungle 🌴 🫣

It was hard to see what was there and how to make it better quickly. We stepped in to clear out the space…
