The charger that pays for itself. ⚡

The Ohme ePod is small, simple and properly clever. No big screen, no fuss. It just sits neatly on the wall and does the thinking through the app instead.

And that's the point. It plugs straight into the cheap EV tariffs, so it charges when electricity is at its lowest price overnight.

We'll be honest with you though: the hardware isn't what saves you the money. The tariff is. Get that right and a charger like this genuinely pays for itself over a few years.

Use home charging for everyday driving. Use rapid chargers when you're travelling.

That's exactly what they're there for.

A charger on the wall isn't a finished job. ⚡

We filmed a full Ohme install from start to finish, so you can see exactly what you're paying for before you book anyone.

The tidy finish is the easy bit to spot. The parts that actually matter are the ones you don't see: checking the consumer unit and earthing first, planning the cable route around your house instead of taking the shortest line, a dedicated circuit with the right protection, notifying the network operator, then properly testing it and walking you through the app before we pack up.

Skip any of that and you're looking at nuisance tripping or a job that gets done twice.

A fair point.

The charger and installation costs are part of the EV ownership equation, and every installation is different.

This one's simple.

Leaving your EV plugged in overnight doesn't mean it's charging all night.

Once the battery reaches its target level, the charging stops. In fact, if you're on a smart tariff, overnight charging is often the most convenient and cost-effective way to charge.

Plug it in. Go to bed. Let the technology do the work.

No oil change. No exhaust. No cambelt. 🔧

An electric motor has about 20 moving parts. A petrol engine has closer to 2,000. Fewer things to go wrong means a much shorter list when it's service time.

A typical EV service is £100 to £250 a year, against £200 to £300 for the petrol version. And because regen braking does most of the slowing down, brake pads often last 70,000 to 100,000 miles instead of 25,000 to 40,000.

The one thing worth budgeting for? Tyres. EVs are heavier and the torque's instant, so they wear a bit quicker.

This commenter got it right. 👏

Home charging is where most EV owners see the biggest savings.

If you're relying on public rapid chargers all the time, the maths can look very different.

"Never charge past 80%."
You've probably heard it before.

The reality is a little more nuanced. Battery health isn't just about the percentage you charge to—it's also about how long the battery stays there.

Every EV is different, so it's always worth checking your vehicle handbook.
