Check out Winnie's 🦅 aerial acrobatics!

We're teaming up with London Falconry to keep pigeons under control using🌱environmentally friendly methods. The connection between the falconer and the hawk is truly remarkable.

🦅 HAWK ATTACK!!! 🚨

Thats what you might think seeing the start of this footage. Using Harris hawks like the amazing Winnie here is actually an environmentally 🌱 friendly way to deter pest birds, using the natural deterrent of the hawk to encourage feral pigeons and other pest birds to vacate an area.

When carried out regularly at the right time of day the the flying of hawks can effectively disperse pest birds that believe the area has become unsafe with an airborne predator in residence.

One of the more interesting things we have found in our bait stations while doing our routine checks!

We have absolutely no idea how this little toad found it's way into the middle of a commercial kitchen in the middle of a building with no doors leading outside.

Facts about this little character

Common name: Common toad, European toad

Scientific name: Bufo bufo

Family: Bufonidae (toads)

Habitat: woodland, grassland and gardens as adults. Ponds as tadpoles.

Diet: Invertebrates, smaller amphibians, even small mammals

Predators: carnivorous mammals like otters and hedgehogs, grass snakes, herons, birds of prey.

When it’s scared or threatened, the warts on its back secrete a vile-tasting substance – its defence against predators.

Fruit flies 🍊 🪰

Not all pests can be easily controlled by just calling in pest control. Control of fruit flies requires maintained high standards of housekeeping to clean away the flies breeding grounds. Sometimes these can be hidden such as in sink overflow pipes.

Pest control treatments alone will have very limited effect.

At Total IPM we work hard to offer right advice to our clients to help identify and remove the source of pest infestations.

The Noble False Widow Spider regularly found in our Total IPM bait stations here is some more about this interesting Arachnid.

Size and appearance
Female 8.5-14 mm
Male: 7-10 mm

Their abdomen pattern is often described as 'skull-shaped' but is more like a pentagon - it is clearer in males and dimmer or sometimes absent in females. Their legs are uniformly red to brown.

Distribution and habitat
Noble false widows were introduced with bananas from the Canary Islands and Madeira. They are now well established in the southern counties and are spreading north. They are found in and around houses and other buildings.

Are they dangerous
Not really, the bite of a false widows spider has been compared to that of a bee or wasp sting with no real long lasting effects. Bites are unlikely as the spiders are not aggressive and would only likely happen in the spider is roughly handled.
