I am an upholsterer who has taken pride in developing as an artisan craftsman since 1989.

Originally a grass roots apprentice, I built my career within the same company to position of Head Upholsterer with lead responsibility for design, pattern creation, and teaching the next generation of upholsterers.

I am proud to have been part of the significant history of industry and manufacture in Lo

ng Eaton, a small town in the East Midlands. From its lace roots, it turned to upholstery in the early 1900’s and is now recognised as the UK centre of quality upholstery manufacture. In more recent years, I have developed a passion for breathing new life into vintage upholstered furniture. Also having a keen interest in the environmental approach, in 2022 I made the decision to go it alone and establish Dandelion Designs.

It’s been a while since we posted, as this year has topped all previous years for client commissions. We’re so thankful to you all for trusting us with your much loved pieces, and allowing us to return them to their former glory.

People often struggle to see the potential in their old furniture….but the beauty of vintage and antique pieces is the inherent quality which forms the bones.

Here’s a beautiful example of a sofa given to us for free. With a little inspiration from Lisa, and some magic from Carl, combined with Clarke & Clarke ‘s 100% cotton fabric, Spencer and Edison, in the racing green colour way, perfection has resulted!

We are currently booking into September…..so dare I say it, Christmas bookings will be in the offing soon! Get in touch, you know where we are 🛋️

In the words of Francis Atterbury ‘It’s attention to detail that makes the difference between average and stunning’.

Our client agreed and gave us some beautiful daffodils from her garden for which we were so touched 🌼

This was a wonderful project from start to finish. Our client wanted her tired chair reupholstered in contrasting fabrics with a nod to a patchwork design.

We assisted with fabric choice, recommending Whinfell Fabric in Mineral/Spice by Studio G from clarke_clarke_interiors for the accent fabric, and Allegra Fabric in Cameo by harlequinfw as the base.

She also wanted to replace her sofa, and we assisted by sourcing a pre-loved one in the exact measurements requested, and reupholstering in Mineral Fabric in Willow by harlequinfw which we recommended alongside detailing with contrast piping in Kotor Fabric in Jasper by villanovafabric to complement her chair.

Customer service is key to success. We listen, we build working relationships, we’re knowledgeable, we’re efficient, and we’re reliable.

A cheeky little hump day ‘Before and After’ picture for you all.

Our client adored their two decade old sofa style and design, however, it had loose covers, was past its best comfort wise, and was extremely worn/loved!

We spent time understanding their priorities and desired outcome, and tailored a solution to restore their sofa to the highest quality, creating a piece for them to enjoy for years to come.

Our personal service and guidance enabled our client to arrive at the perfect combination of Slubby Linen II Fabric by Warwick Fabrics UK Ltd in Indigo, with Tanfield Piping Cord Trimming by Sanderson Fabrics and Wallpapers in Parchment.

As we head into our last week before the Christmas break, we’d like to thank all of our fabulous clients for their business, kind words, and reviews, and for often returning to us with other projects.

This year has once again topped last year for both enquiries and orders, and has seen us running for most of the year with a waiting list which we’re so grateful you’ve been happy to join.

Here’s one of our latest projects. A classic sofa over two decades old, revived in a bold and sumptuous velvet by designersguild Zaragoza in Emerald. Perfect for Santa to have his brandy and mince pie 🎅

We hope you all have a wonderful festive season, and we’ll see you on our return to the workshop on 5 January 2026.

Our clients had a pair of armchairs of sentimental value, but they were giving vibes of decades past! They asked for contemporary, and we think you’ll agree that is what they got.

We changed the arm facings, back cushions, and front border, and finished with the vibrant Plush Velvet in Atoll by warwickfabricsuk

Our client said “suffice to say we are absolutely delighted with the chairs and found the whole experience of dealing with you and Carl brilliant and would absolutely recommend you!”
