It's CHICKEN FRIDAY!!! Or "Check-in Friday".... It's just that chickens are more fun!!!

How has your week been?

Its been a curious few days, as slowly more retailers open their doors to customers and refine procedures for keeping everyone safe. I have only ventured out a couple of times. All feels very surreal.

I know that my own priorities have shifted considerably these past months.... I much prefer to shop local and to live more simply too. I doubt I will ever return to how my life was before!

Yet now it feels like an "end of an era" type thing, as we slowly emerge from lockdown. So much of life is returning to a NEW normal, and that goes for CREATIVink too. I will be posting here, but not as regularly.

In September I return to University. So I will be sharing my "Planner" preparations and all the arty ways I intend to add that extra "pizzazz" to my notes!!

But for now, I hope you have enjoyed all our creative playground adventures as much as me.

Stay safe and keep exploring your own unique creativity.

Love n hugs as always,
Jo xx

What a fun week it has been, drawing the houses of mysterious fairytale characters!! Have you been able to guess them all?

I hope you have enjoyed drawing lots of houses of your own, for friends and family to guess who may live there. I loved creating tiny clues and poems too.

A further activity is writing letters and mail for the Jolly Postman to deliver. There really are sooo many options

Remember to share your houses and mail using the hashtag

A jolly postman came one day.
From over the hills and far away... And went home in the evening for tea!" (The Jolly Postman by Ahlberg)

What post would the Bears receive? A party invitation for baby bear? A copy of "Bears Weekly" for Mother Bear?Maybe even a gardening Magazine for Father Bear.

Enjoy drawing a house for a mysterious character and creating letters, postcards and mail that you think they would receive. Can your friends and family guess who lives in your house?

WHO LIVES HERE?

A Palace stands before us
With a grand and stately face.
But to me it always seems
A sleepy sort of place.

Who lives here?
Sleeping Beauty's Palace

The postman drank champagne
Then wobbled off to do his rounds
Again and again and again... Oops!" (The Jolly Postman by Ahlberg)

WHO LIVES HERE?

Through the forest, between the trees,
A pretty cottage we shall see.
The person hidden deep inside
Is not who they pretend to be.

Who lives here?
"So "Grandma" read her letter and poured the tea.
Which the not-so Jolly Postman drank nervously!!" (The Jolly Postman by Ahlberg.)

What post would the wolf receive? A message from the Council threatening eviction maybe? Or perhaps a legal letter from the Three Little Pigs' Solicitors?

~ The Jolly Postman by Janet & Alan Ahlberg.

So begins a fun game for families to enjoy together and get some good learning done too! It's a project I ran a few times with my classes when I was teaching... first thought up when I was training! It is based on "The Jolly Postman" book and another "The Enchanted Wood", sadly, now out of print.

The focus of this week's mini-projects is to draw different houses for folk to guess who lives there. The activity can then be extended to include writing letters and creating "mail" for the occupiers. Kids get soooo caught up in their imaginations, thinking up designs of house that their character would live in and then creating mail for the postman to deliver that they forget that they are learning too!! Success, in my book!!!

So here we begin our travels with a drawing of a modern Royal Mail Postman. (I did originally draw him with shorts but his knees looked dreadful πŸ˜‚) Anyone else have a wonderful, cheery postman? Ours is soooo cool!! And they have been such superstars over lockdown. So why not create a wonderful card to celebrate and thank them!!

CHICKEN FRIDAY!

Or "check-in" Friday... πŸ˜‹

How are ya doin'? How has your week been?

Slowly slowly lockdown is being lifted and we are beginning to have opportunities to see more of our dear ones from outside our immediate households.

Returning to school for many of us is still proving to be difficult. But we can still have fun learning at home. All we need is paper, pen and a doodling imagination. Everything we experience can provide us with an opportunity to be creative!! And, if we are being creative, then we are still learning and problem-solving too. Nothing is wasted!!!

NEXT WEEK: we will be back drawing and doodling again. But this time we will be creating a Doodlerama Town, choc-full of different buildings!! But for now, have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to continuing our adventures together in this creative playground.

Love n hugs

Wow!! I have really enjoyed exploring our incredible world this week. We have practised looking very carefully at the wildlife around us, and recording our discoveries as notes, labelled diagrams and charts. OK it has been somewhat wet! But atleast we have been able to retreat into our imagination too!!

There really is so much diversity to celebrate, all the detail and differences that make everything so incredibly unique.

Thank you sooo much for being here in this creative adventure playground. I like to imagine you all doodling away contentedly and imagining all kinds of new fantastical possibilities!!

Much love and huge hugs sent to you all, including the gorgeous spooling mice!! Jo xx

MY IMAGINARY WORLD

😊 To draw labelled diagrams of plants and animals that inhabit your own imaginary world

Now that we have been exploring the natural world around us, why not provide as much detail with the plants and animals within our imagination too?

JK Rowling, who wrote the Harry Potter books, explored in lots of detail the features and qualities of all the magical animals and plants that appear in her stories. She knew exactly what her fantastical beasts ate, the noises they made, how they moved and what they looked like. Even the various plants, explored in Professor Sprout's lessons, were all captured in meticulous detail.

Its great fun creating imaginary plants and animals. It is your own world, so there is no way you can describe them wrong!! Group them in the same ways we have with those from the real world and maybe add extra-special powers too. Then you can collect them all together to create your very own "Fantastical World Book" not unlike the Spiderwick Chronicles!
