On Tuesday, Paul had the opportunity to attend the Inside Ashton Court Mansion tour for the built environment sector.

It was a great chance to explore this historic Bristol landmark and appreciate the architecture and heritage that make buildings like Ashton Court so special.

Taking the time to understand the stories behind our historic buildings is an important part of recognising their value and the role they continue to play in our communities.

Yesterday, we were delighted to sponsor the Constructing Excellence Swindon & Wiltshire – Meet the Team Evening Event at Lydiard Park Hotel.

Peter Blake joined fellow committee members and people from across the built environment for an evening of great conversations, networking and making new connections.

It was a brilliant opportunity to bring people together, share ideas and strengthen relationships across Swindon and Wiltshire.

Nestled within the grounds of a Grade II* listed home in the Cotswolds, Bruern Abbey Orangery is a great example of how thoughtful design can complement a historic setting.

With a site history stretching back to a 12th-century Cistercian monastery, the Orangery was designed to sit naturally alongside the Georgian house, drawing on the Palladian style of its south elevation.

From the carefully proportioned glazing and detailed stonework to the balanced garden landscaping, every element helps the new space feel connected to its surroundings.

CMS Group provided architecture, project management and quantity surveying, supporting the project from detailed design through to delivery. Our role covered everything from cost planning and procurement to programme management, contract administration and building regulations.

The result is a beautiful garden retreat that respects the past while serving a clear purpose today.

Yesterday, Paul attended the Southern Construction Framework Bristol Market Engagement Event, hosted by Mace at We The Curious.

The event explored upcoming opportunities through the framework, with interactive discussions covering collaboration, leadership, building relationships and innovation in housing.

It was also a great chance to catch up with familiar faces from across Bristol’s construction and property community and make new connections.

Recently, Peter attended the Constructing Excellence South West Bath Committee Roundtable Breakfast at The Bird, Bath.

The morning brought together professionals from across the industry for some really interesting conversations around AI, smart buildings, energy infrastructure, sustainability and project delivery.

A few key takeaways included:
Technology should deliver real, measurable value.
Long-term performance needs to remain a priority.
Better data can lead to smarter decisions.
Early collaboration can improve project outcomes.
AI is a powerful tool, but people and communication remain essential.

A great opportunity to share experiences, challenge thinking and make new connections.

A great morning of networking in Cirencester!

Yesterday, Peter attended the launch of Total Business Network Wiltshire & Cotswolds at The Kings Head, Cirencester.

A relaxed morning of good conversations, familiar faces and plenty of new connections.

TBN is all about bringing local businesses together, building genuine relationships and creating opportunities and the table-swap format certainly made it easy to meet plenty of people along the way!

This month, Grace joined Women in Property South West for a Spotlight Series site visit to the new Trowbridge Sports Centre, hosted by Stantec.

It was great to see the progress being made first-hand and hear from the MEP team about the technical and sustainability challenges involved in delivering such an important community facility.

Some of the standout features include:
- 25m six-lane swimming pool and learner pool
- Fitness suite, studios and soft play area
- Solar panel canopies across much of the car park
- Airtightness designed to help maintain climate control
- Spin bikes that generate energy and feed it back into the building

With practical completion targeted for the end of this year, it was fascinating to see the vision becoming a reality.

For the first time in a whole lot of networking, Peter found himself as the new guy in the room!

Last Thursday morning, he joined the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Group at Marriott Bonvoy Swindon for a networking event.

As a recent new member, it was great to receive such a warm welcome and even better, Peter was invited up on stage to introduce CMS Group to everyone.

A great morning of meeting new people, making connections and getting involved in the local business community.
