The hunt for the perfect stone… 🪨

Today we’ve been over to Winchcombe Reclamation Yard in search of the right York sandstone flagstones for a traditional Cotswold patio we’re about to build.

One of the advantages of using reclaimed materials is the character they bring. Every flagstone has its own weathered texture, natural colour variation and history—something that’s impossible to replicate with brand-new stone.

After looking through a fantastic selection of reclaimed stone, we found exactly what we were after. Now it’s time to take these beautiful York flags back to site and give them a new lease of life in a garden where they’ll look right at home.

We can’t wait to show you the finished result.

Moments of Clarity

There is something special about water when you stop long enough to notice it.

A single flow, a suspended droplet, the gentle movement across a surface — simple details that can completely change the feeling of a space.

This feature is still taking shape, but already it is beginning to bring that sense of calm, reflection and quiet elegance to the garden.

Water has a way of softening hard landscaping, catching the light and creating a moment of stillness in an otherwise busy world. Massive shout out to the team for the hard work through soaking wet days and these last to heat waves we are looking forward to the big reveal..

A little sneak peek at one of the more elegant features taking shape on this project.

It is not finished yet, but the clean lines, still water and carefully chosen details are already starting to give it a real sense of calm and refinement.

The final touches will bring it all together, but even at this stage you can see how this water feature is going to become a real focal point in the garden.

Working in this heat is no easy task ☀️

Everything is scorching to touch, even the water bottles are warming up in the shade, and the sunshine has been relentless.

Still, the work carries on. Plenty of water, regular short breaks and a cheeky ice cream have kept the team going today.

Keeping morale high and the end goal in sight is everything on days like this.

More scorching weather tomorrow… 🥵💪

There’s something satisfying about doing it the traditional way.

Facing stone by hand with a hammer and bolster takes time, patience and a good eye, but it gives you control over every edge, joint and finished face. No two pieces are exactly the same, which is what makes natural stone work so well in a garden setting.

It is all in the preparation — getting the stone to sit properly, keeping the lines clean and making sure the finished detail looks like it belongs there for years to come.

Today we collected these beautiful handcrafted terracotta pots from Tom’s Yard in Herefordshire, ready for one of our latest landscaping projects in Painswick.

These statement pieces are going to become a real focal point within the garden, complementing the natural stone and planting scheme perfectly.

We always believe that it’s the finishing touches that transform a garden from nice to exceptional.

We can’t wait to show you how they look once they’re in position… watch this space.

Hottest day of the year… and we spent every minute of it shifting earth, stone and concrete.

Today was all about breaking the back of a fantastic new landscaping project. We demolished an old wall, removed another unsafe section before it became a problem, created a grab-hire pile ready for waste removal, and levelled the entire lawn ready for raking and seeding.

It’s an ongoing project, but it’s great to get the heavy groundwork out of the way.

One thing’s for sure… working in a 360 excavator all day doesn’t protect you from the sun! ☀️ Judging by the state of my knees (see the photo!), I probably should’ve been a bit more generous with the sun cream.

Landscaping isn’t just about the finished photos you see at the end—it’s the long, hot days, the heavy lifting, and the groundwork that make those transformations possible.

On to the next stage! Go team!

Well, today’s landscaping forecast is 100% chance of paperwork. 🌧️

With rain hammering down all day, the tools stay in the van and the gardens will have to wait. One of the less glamorous parts of landscaping is that when the weather stops us working, the bills don’t stop coming!

Still, every cloud has a silver lining – it’s a chance to catch up on quotes, designs, invoices and all the office jobs that usually get pushed to the bottom of the pile.

Here’s hoping for a bit of sunshine tomorrow… because gardens don’t build themselves! ☔🌿
