Why have we invested in specialist divisions within Ben Wood Group?

As the business has grown, so have the requirements of our customers.

Rather than trying to make every engineer cover everything, we’ve invested in developing specialist areas within the Group,

⚡ Industrial Electrical – LV distribution, machinery supplies, lighting, shutdowns, testing and electrical infrastructure.

💥 Hazardous Areas – ATEX installations, inspections, remedials, hazardous area classification and compliance.

☀️ Solar – commercial solar maintenance, fault finding, optimisation and new installations.

Each division has people who understand that particular environment, while still working together as one business.

For our customers, particularly those operating large industrial and cold-storage facilities, it means one contractor capable of supporting multiple areas of their electrical infrastructure nationwide.

PHASE 2 AWARDED | £1.3M PROJECT

We’re delighted to have been awarded Phase 2 of our major 110,000 sq ft manufacturing electrical fit-out.

With Phase 1 our containment and lighting package now nearing completion, our team is preparing to move straight into the next stage.

Phase 2,

⚡ 2 x 2,500A LV panels & associated mains cabling
⚡ 2 x Detuned Power Factor Correction units
⚡ Approx. 300m of 1,000A busbar & associated supplies
⚡ New distribution throughout the factory from 630A down to 125A
⚡ Major supplies throughout the facility ranging from 1,000A to 250A

The project now represents a contract value of approximately £1.3 million to Ben Wood Group, with further phases still to be awarded.

This is a significant project for our Industrial Electrical division and a great example of the scale of projects our team is now delivering.

A massive thank you to our client for the continued trust and to everyone at Ben Wood Group involved in getting the project to this stage.

Phase 1 nearly complete. Phase 2 secured. Plenty more to come. ⚡

⚡ WEEK 5 110,000 SQ FT INDUSTRIAL PROJECT

Five weeks on site and the progress from our four industrial engineers has been phenomenal.

For us, delivering large projects isn’t always about putting more people on site it’s about having the right people, good planning and a solid team.

Five weeks in:

⚡ 80% of main containment routes installed
⚡ 80% of lighting busbar installed
💡 70% of lighting installation complete
📏 Over 1,000 metres of containment and busbar installed

All delivered Monday to Friday, while maintaining the quality and standards we expect across every Ben Wood Group project.

And the best part this is only Phase One of the project orders.

The numbers speak for themselves. Four quality industrial engineers, five weeks, and a serious amount of work delivered.

Massive credit to the team on site. 👏⚡

Another busy week across Ben Wood Group ⚡✈️☀️

Some exciting meetings this week for our Hazardous Areas Division ✈️ unfortunately we’ll have to keep the details under wraps for now, but some great opportunities ahead.

Our Solar Division has been busy across the UK, getting existing systems back to their maximum operational potential and helping clients get the most from their assets. ☀️

Meanwhile, our Industrial Electrical team continues progressing our 110,000 sq ft industrial fit-out, alongside multiple other projects.

And behind all of that, our engineers continue travelling nationwide, supporting our customers and keeping their operations moving. 😅

Plenty happening, plenty more coming. ⚡

⚡ Industrial containment systems

A strong end to the first half of the year ⚡

As we head into Q3, I’ve been reflecting on what has been a really positive first half of the year for Ben Wood Group.

We’ve seen turnover increase, our customer base continue to grow and our team expand, with more engineers joining the business as our workload continues to develop.

A particularly important part of that growth has been our Hazardous Areas division, which is now contributing significantly to the Group’s turnover. The investment we’ve made in specialist training, competency and developing this division is really starting to show.

But for me, the numbers only tell a small part of the story.

None of it happens without our team.

From the office team keeping everything moving behind the scenes, through to our engineers delivering projects across the UK, everyone has worked exceptionally hard over the first half of the year.

Early starts, late finishes, working away, weekend shutdowns, emergency call outs and some seriously challenging projects they’ve continued to deliver safely and to the standard we expect.

It’s also important to me that when the business performs well, the people helping us achieve it benefit too. This year our employees have been rewarded through bonuses, additional annual leave and continued investment in training and development.

We’re growing the business, but we also want to continue making Ben Wood Group a company where good people want to stay, develop and build their careers.

There is still plenty we want to achieve this year, and Q3 is already looking extremely busy.

👏 A massive thank you to these lads.

After one of the most challenging shutdowns we’ve undertaken, I wanted to give some recognition to the team who worked through the night to get the job done.

The team spent around 20+ hours on site, working continuously through an extremely complex LV panel replacement and changeover.

Once we opened up a 25–30-year-old installation, we were faced with plenty of unforeseen challenges difficult existing cabling, re-glanding large SWAs, alterations to earthing arrangements, removing the old LV equipment and manoeuvring a new 450kg+ LV panel into position.

Not once did the lads look for a shortcut. Safety and getting the installation right came first, regardless of the pressure we were under to restore power.

Long hours, very little sleep and a huge amount of responsibility on their shoulders.

Proud of the effort from the whole team. Now get some wellearned rest, lads! 👏⚡

Investing in the next generation. 👏

This week, we’re delighted to welcome Isobel to Ben Wood Group as our first office apprentice.

Isobel will be studying towards her AAT Level 2 qualification while working closely with our office team, gaining hands on experience in the day-to-day operations of a specialist electrical contractor. From administration and finance to project support and customer service, she’ll develop a broad understanding of how our business operates.

This is a first for us. Over the years, we’ve supported and trained a number of electrical apprentices through the engineering side of the business, but we’ve never welcomed an office apprentice before. It’s an exciting step as we continue to grow and invest in the future of Ben Wood Group.

The next stage is recruiting our next electrical engineering apprentice. We’ve received a fantastic response, and our office team will now be working through every application.

Welcome to the team Isobel we’re looking forward to supporting you throughout your apprenticeship and watching you develop over the coming years.

Week 2 Completed ✔️

Another productive week on site at our factory fit out project.

This week our team has completed the installation of the main cable containment system across the new production facility, creating the backbone for the electrical infrastructure that will support the new manufacturing lines.

This week’s progress includes:

✔️ Installation of the main heavy-duty cable tray system throughout the facility.
✔️ Suspended containment installed ready for power, control and data cabling.
✔️ Infrastructure designed to support the new production machinery and future expansion.
✔️ Installation completed to a high standard, ensuring safe access and long-term maintainability.

Over the coming weeks our engineers will begin installing:

⚡ LV power distribution
💡 700+ LED and emergency light fittings
🔌 Power supplies to production machinery
⚙️ Final containment, cabling and terminations

A fantastic effort from everyone on site. Looking forward to sharing more progress as this project continues.
