Concrete production accounts for a significant share of construction-related carbon emissions. At JKH, we've worked to reduce that impact without compromising performance.

Every standard precast concrete product we manufacture uses our ECO 1® blend, which cuts cement content by 46% and reduces CO₂e emissions by 12%, while still meeting the durability and strength needed for demanding environments.

For projects with higher sustainability targets, ECO 1 ULTRA® goes further, reducing cement content by up to 70% and CO₂e emissions by up to 49%.

Both blends remain fully compliant with BS 8500-2:2023 and are suitable for even the most aggressive environments.

For us, this isn't a separate sustainability initiative, it's just how we make concrete.

Not every drainage product needs to survive aggressive ground conditions. But when it does, there's no margin for "should be fine."

Every precast unit we produce is tested against Design Chemical Class 4 and Design Sulphate Class 4, the standards for the most chemically hostile environments concrete can face.

That's backed up by testing that happens 3 times a week, every week: cube tests at 7 and 28 days, slump flow checks, the works. Our steelwork is EN 1090 accredited, and every bespoke product gets a factory trial fit before it ever leaves us.

None of this is visible once a unit is in the ground. But it's the reason it's still doing its job 20 years later.

Good drainage infrastructure isn't the stuff anyone talks about. That's usually the sign it's working.

Pouring concrete on-site still happens a lot more than it probably should.

Weather delays. Curing time. Variable quality depending on conditions that day. And once it's in the ground, there's no fixing a bad pour.

Precast removes most of that risk before it ever reaches site. Every unit is cast in factory-controlled conditions, tested, and checked before it leaves us, not after it's already installed.

The numbers back it up too: switching to precast can cut project costs by up to 63% compared to on-site casting, mainly through reduced labour, fewer delays, and shorter lead times.

It's not about cutting corners. It's about moving the work to where it can be done right, every time, regardless of what the weather's doing on installation day.
