Things are finally cooling down a bit this week, but the ground and vegetation remain incredibly dry after such a long dry spell. Remember, never light a BBQ, fire, or stove in the forest. Bring your favourite picnic snacks instead, and help us keep the countryside safe πŸ€—

Did you know today is World Nature Conservation Day? There is so much special wildlife in Leigh Woods and there’s one simple thing we can all do to help it thrive. When we keep feet, paws, wheels, and hooves on official trails, nature has the space it needs to thrive, from birds and insects, to mammals and reptiles, and even the plants they depend on πŸ¦πŸ¦‹πŸŒΏ

⚠ Increased wildfire risk

The UK's third heatwave is increasing the risk of wildfires. The Fire Severity Index is currently 'very high' for across the south west, and the Natural Hazards Partnership have issued a red-level wildfire warning.

Hot, dry weather means it only takes one small spark to start a fire that can spread rapidly, putting people, homes and wildlife at risk.

You can help prevent wildfires by:

🧺 Having a picnic and not using disposable barbecues
🚯 Taking all litter home, especially glass bottles
🚭 Making sure ci******es are fully extinguished
🚨 Calling 999 immediately if you spot a wildfire

On World Biodiversity Day, we're thinking about one simple thing we can do to protect the nature and wildlife around us.

By keeping feet, paws, wheels, and hooves on official paths and trails, we can give nature space to thrive and protect it from disturbance. We know that heading off the beaten track is super tempting, but keeping to official trails is a small thing we can all do to protect biodiversity for the future πŸ™
