It’s always sad when a mature tree has to come down, but safety had to come first with this one! We recently dismantled and removed this Pine tree after it caused severe structural cracking to a boundary wall.

As you can see in the photo, the damage was pretty bad. If this wall were to fail, it could pose a real danger to pedestrians using the public footpath below.

Because this job was located in a Conservation Area, we worked directly with the local council to secure full approval before starting any work.

🌴 A palm tidy-up we did earlier this month! 🌴

By mid-summer, garden palms get packed with heavy seed stalks. A client asked us to come and strip theirs back to neaten it up - if they're not managed, those seed pods end up dropping everywhere and giving you a much bigger job to clear them up later in the year!

Getting them cleared out now saves a huge cleanup headache down the line. We removed all the heavy seed stalks and trimmed back the right parts to give it a proper tidy-up, you can really see how much neater and better it looks in the before and after photos below.

🪵 From tree work byproducts to Forest School Fun!🪵

We always love finding a sustainable second life for the timber we remove during our daily tree works. We recently donated a load of logs and stumps to a school in Lyde Green for their Forest School sessions, and they sent us a great update on how the children are using them!

They told us that the children go out in absolutely all weathers with huge smiles on their faces. The new logs were a massive hit with the kids, who apparently were very excited to learn all about what tree sap is ... and exactly why it’s so sticky, before sitting down on them!

The school shared how these outdoor sessions give every year group a chance to learn together. It’s not just about hands-on teamwork and social skills; the kids also use the space for woodwork and environmental learning that ties right into their science topics. It's great to hear how much the children love playing out there together and looking forward to their end-of-term campfire. 🔥🌲

It’s brilliant to see our timber being put to such a good new use, and we’re just really glad we could help support a local school and the kids' outdoor learning.

🐝 Looking after our Bristol garden wildlife (and our trees) in this heatwave! ☀️

It has been absolutely scorching across Bristol the past few days! While we’re all looking for some shade, the wildlife nesting in our gardens is doing the exact same. This heatwave is incredibly tough on local birds, bees, and hedgehogs - and it puts a massive amount of stress on our trees, too.

If you’re spending time out in the garden this weekend, here is how you can help look after our local wildlife:

💧 A simple saucer with a few pebbles in it gives bees a safe place to land and drink without drowning, and gives birds a spot to cool down.

🪴 Group your patio pots: I read this on Bristol Water's advice page and thought it was a great idea - cluster your container plants together in a shady corner. It creates a cool, humid micro-climate underneath them where insects and small garden mammals can shelter from the midday glare.

🔎 Watch out for heat stress: Just like us, trees get sunburned. Prolonged, intense sun can cause leaf scorch, causing leaves to curl up, turn crispy brown at the edges, or drop early as the tree struggles to conserve water.

This heatwave is the ultimate structural stress test. Right now is the best time for a professional eye to spot hidden dangers - like heavily overweighted limbs, hairline structural cracks, or major deadwood, before they become a hazard to your property.

With temperatures set to soar this week, it’s not just us feeling the heat – our trees are too.

Prolonged hot, dry weather can put trees under stress and can highlight existing issues like dead or weakened branches. A healthy, well-maintained tree is more likely to cope better with the heat, but even well established trees can struggle during prolonged extreme conditions.

With summer storms often following long hot days, now is a sensible time to check any trees you’re already concerned about.

If you already know you have a dead or damaged tree or limb that needs removing, this is also a good time to get it looked at before the weather changes.

🌳 Worth checking:

• Dead or hanging branches
• Limbs overhanging homes, driveways or seating areas
• Signs of previous storm damage

Spotting the signs before the summer storms ⛈️🌲

We were recently called out to safely dismantle and remove this dead tree from a residential garden.

Right now, healthy trees are in full, thick summer leaf, which makes a dead or dying tree stick out like a sore thumb. Because dead wood quickly becomes brittle and unpredictable, getting it down safely now prevents it from causing real damage if a sudden summer storm hits.

We brought this one down carefully in sections, leaving the garden completely tidy and the nearby fences untouched.

Instead of hauling all of our surplus wood chippings, mulch, and timber back to the yard at the end of a job, we love to recycle them directly back into the local Bristol community completely free of charge.

How our Chippings Drop List works:

This isn't a scheduled or guaranteed delivery service. It simply means that when we are carrying out tree work right in your immediate neighborhood with a surplus load on the truck, we check our list and reach out to see if you still need it before we head back to the yard.
