What a wonderful way to spend a Thursday morning. Getting together with fellow garden designers to visit a beautiful private garden in Somerset, arranged by
A huge thank you to Julie and Charlie for opening their garden to us, and for the tea and cake that made the visit even sweeter. The countryside views were breathtaking, and I could happily have sat there all day, even during the rain showers!
The terraces near the house were filled with Cistus, Euphorbia, Rosemary and Lavender, with a Wisteria giving a wonderful display, interwoven with climbing roses and underplanted with elegant Iris sibirica. Beyond that, a showstopping border of bearded iris echoed the wisteria’s colour palette beautifully.
Further down the slope, pathways led us into a woodland garden filled with Rhododendron, Camellia, Cornus kousa, hosta, ferns and primula. Stunning dry stone walling and minimal hardscaping tied everything together with such care and sensitivity.
Featured in the May 2025 edition of Gardens Illustrated, this garden is clearly a labour of love — thoughtful, layered and deeply inspiring.
