🌳 TREES — SMALL IN SIZE, BIG ON IMPACT 🌳

Trees can be an important part of garden design, even in smaller gardens. You don’t always need a large tree to create impact — small, well-chosen trees can provide interest throughout the year.

🌿 All-year interest – spring blossom, summer foliage, autumn colour and beautiful winter structure.

🐝 Great for wildlife – trees provide food and habitat for insects, birds and other garden wildlife.

🌳 Create a focal point – a carefully positioned tree can draw the eye and give your garden a strong sense of structure.

✨ Think about lighting – an uplight can beautifully highlight the shape and form of a tree, creating a stunning focal point on winter evenings.

🌍 And, importantly, trees help our planet – they absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen and help support healthier ecosystems.

A tree doesn’t have to dominate your garden. The right tree, in the right place, can transform a space.

🌱 Good garden design is about choosing plants and trees that work hard for your garden — all year round.

Before and after - such an important part of our job as a designer is listening to your brief and working with you to get the garden that works for you!

Take this brighton project for an example - a space that didn’t work for my clients. While raising the floor level the garden then became connection to the garden office. With still plenty of garden to design for phase two…

Now a useable garden 💚🌿🌱

Adding new soil helps to:

* 🌱 Improve soil structure
* 💧 Improve drainage and moisture retention
* 🌿 Add nutrients and organic matter
* 🌸 Encourage healthier plant growth
* 🌾 Create better growing conditions for new planting

For a new flowerbed, preparing the soil with good-quality topsoil and organic matter creates the ideal growing conditions before planting..

This is a job you can be doing in your garden now…

A country design & build. We used some beautiful stone from Horsham Stone & Reclamation. This garden featured a cut flower garden and a wild flower meadow.
