Fishy Fingers and Second Chances!

Fishy fingers, endless phone calls, and plenty of time spent working at heights… but I was determined to change my future.

Back in the day, I spent my days behind a fish counter. The only thing I seemed to take home was the smell of fish on my hands! Looking back, maybe that’s why I wasn’t getting much attention from the ladies. 🤣 I mean, I’ve never seen a “Fishy Eau de Parfum” on the shelves!

Determined to get into the building trade, I turned to the trusty Yellow Pages (showing my age now!). I called every builder, joiner, and tradesman I could find. Not once. Not twice. Multiple times.

In fact, I called one particular person so often that I think he eventually gave in just to stop me ringing him!

That person was Carl.

Carl was tough, blunt, and never sugar-coated anything. There were plenty of days when he made me question my career choices – and sometimes my life choices too!

But the truth is, I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.

He gave me an opportunity when others wouldn’t. He pushed me, taught me, challenged me, and helped shape the tradesman and person I’ve become. Looking back, I’m amazed he never pushed me off a roof or buried me under a pile of cement! 🤣

What started as a boss-employee relationship grew into a friendship that I genuinely value.

So Carl, this one’s for you.

Thank you for believing in me, for teaching me, for giving me a chance, and for putting up with me over the years.

I honestly can’t thank you enough.

And before you ask…

No, I still haven’t been to the gym yet! 💪😂
