Have you ever shone a torch up into your loft this time of year and wish you hadn't? 🔦🪰
As the temperature drops, cluster flies start searching for a cozy spot to hibernate. What usually starts as a few buzzing around the top-floor windows can end up as thousands tucked away together on the rafters and brickwork—just like on this job I was at today!
The good news is they don't eat wood, bite, or breed inside the home. The annoying news is that once they settle in, they'll trickle down into your living space every time the heating comes on or the sun hits the roof.
Why autumn is the best time to tackle them:
• It breaks the cycle: Treating the loft while they’re aggregating cuts their life cycle before they can establish a permanent winter retreat.
• It keeps next year’s numbers down: Managing them now means significantly fewer flies returning to the same spot next autumn.
• Fewer surprises indoors: It stops them from sluggishly dropping into bedrooms and hallways over the coming months.
If your loft is looking a bit like this or you’re seeing an unusual amount of slow-moving flies around the house, feel free to drop me a message or give me a call for a chat about how to get it sorted.
