New bell 🔔 installed on the 2nd hole of the Wee Course!

This will help improve safety for all golfers when playing over the blind crest. Once your group is safely out of range, please ring the bell to let the group behind know it’s clear to tee off.

Thank you for helping keep the course safe and enjoyable for everyone. ⛳️🔔

The aftermath of a heavy downpour — and a reminder of the work that goes on behind the scenes to keep the course playable.

First thing this morning, the team were out with shovels, rakes and plenty of sweat working flat out to get everything back in shape and ready for today’s competitions.

Today marks an incredible milestone as Ross Stewart celebrates 25 years of service here at BGC.

Ross joined us back in 2001 as a young apprentice, eager to learn and ready to get stuck in. It didn’t take long for him to develop the skills, knowledge, and work ethic that saw him rise through the ranks.

He spent several years as Deputy on Lansdowne under the current Head Greenkeeper, before stepping up to take on the role of Head Greenkeeper on The Wee Course.

As many of you will know, Ross does a fantastic job, and the course continues to go from strength to strength year after year—a real testament to his dedication and expertise.

If you see him today, be sure to give him a wave and help celebrate the occasion.

(And if you’re wondering… a good bottle of wine or a Jack Daniels wouldn’t go amiss 😉)

After one of the wettest Januarys in recent years, soft areas began to appear across all courses, highlighting an underlying issue beneath the greens. Further investigation revealed a compacted layer around 12 inches below the surface—too deep for our conventional aeration methods—leaving the profile at full capacity and unable to drain efficiently.

To tackle this, we’ve introduced the Air2G2. Using 12-inch probes, it delivers high-pressure air into the compacted layer, shattering it from within and restoring vital drainage and airflow—without disrupting the playing surface.

This week we carried out selective high-pruning around one of our more shaded greens, lifting the tree canopies to improve airflow and light pe*******on to the playing surface.

This will help improve overall turf health while retaining the character and visual feature the trees provide.

All work was completed in-house by our two trained and qualified climbers.

Here’s why we don’t walk or play on greens when we have frost.
This was done just before xmas when we seen the footprints in the frost but by the looks of it it’s just been kids messing around that have come on the course from the road.
We do constantly see footprints and trolly marks in the frost from golfers taking shortcuts so just be mindful of the damage it can cause this picture of the frost burn was taken today, although superficial it won’t recover until the grass starts growing again,
