🌱www.thehistoricalherbologist.com I am currently studying Herbology at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh, with plans to graduate in the summer of 2025. My journey into the world of plants has deepened my interest in the intricate relationships between humans and nature, particularly through the lens of ethnobotany. I enjoy uncovering how different cultures have utilised plants throughout history and the traditions, skills, and stories that have evolved with them. In addition to my studies, I run seasonal and nature-based events that emphasize slow living, encouraging participants to reconnect with the natural world through hands-on experiences to promote physical and mental well-being. Whether through foraging walks, workshops on herbal remedies and recipes, or crafting with natural materials, my mission is to create spaces where individuals can learn, grow, and cultivate a deeper understanding of the plant kingdom and its applications in everyday life. I've previously collaborated with various brands, organisations, and charitable institutions, including Asics, Walton Charity, and Watt's Gallery, by hosting workshops and events, as well as providing consultation and support for exhibitions and literature. If you're interested in exploring the fascinating world of flora and fauna while learning new skills and traditions, consider joining one of my upcoming workshops and events!

Day 18... Black Hellebore ☠️🌱

Nicholas Culpeper says "Country people use it for the cure of such beasts as are troubled with the cough, or have taken any poison, by boring a hole through the ear and putting a piece of the root therein."

Thank goodness poison antidotes have come a long way since! πŸ˜…

Day 15...Ergot ☠️🌱

Whilst not a petrifying plant itself, Ergot's effects on it's host plant are enough to earn it an honorary place on the list! 🌾

Day 14...White Bryony ☠️🌱

"The root is very great, long, and thick, growing deep in the earth, of a white yellowish colour, extreme bitter, and altogether of an unpleasant taste. The Queen's Chief Surgeon Mr. William Godorous, a very curious and learned gentleman showd me a root hereof, that weighed half an hundred weight, and of the bigness of a child, of a year old." - Generall Historie of Plantes, John Gerard 1597

I'm not a massive lover of lord's and ladies but it is impressive how the temperature around the spadix can be 15 degrees warmer than the surrounding area!
