Another heatwave is underway, remember to water your pots, hanging baskets and raised planters!

When watering larger containers and flower beds remember that deep infrequent watering is way better than little and often. It helps your plants develop a deeper more resilient root system.

I am now taking bookings for my mulching service in December, I will be sourcing high quality composts and blending them into my recommended mix.

Gone to Pots Update:

The good and the bad.

I'll rip the plaster off and start with the bad news, unfortunately due to fuel price volatility as well as the greater expenses involved in becoming fully self employed, I am going to have to delay my full time round. I will still be able to take on customers but this will primarily involve weekend slots.

This will not affect existing customers or new customers provided they're happy with evening and weekend slots.

The good news however, over the last few months I have invested in my abilities to propagate plants, and I now have a small nursery which means I can periodically offer cheap pollinator friendly plants to customers on my round.

Additionally, I have invested in a new battery powered lawnmower to reduce the impacts of fuel price increases, allowing me to keep prices low for customers. This switch will also eliminate the air and a fair amount of noise pollution when I mow. Being a brand new mower, it will also deliver excellent cut quality this year.

Let's talk about "Edimentals", this is a phrase that is in vogue with many avid gardeners at the moment, it is a portmanteau of Edible and Ornamental.

This is a category of planting which provides beautiful colour and structure to a garden environment, whilst also providing fresh vegetables and fruits. Pictured below is one of my ornamental chilli plants last year.

I can offer advice to my customers on edimental planting, and if you are interested in hiring me for your garden I can offer discounts on Edimentals whilst I still have a good supply. I can also source and plant pollinator friendly companion plants to make the most of these showstopping garden vegetables.

This Italian Arum is showing its foliage beautifully at the moment. This stunner of a plant does well in shady spots and borders that are tight on space, you will need to keep on top of it as it can be a spreader but with regular weeding it can be kept in pleasant little clumps. This one in a customers garden was looking much better following the application of some high quality mulch.
