🌱 GRASS LOOKING A BIT WORSE FOR WEAR AFTER THE DRY SPELL? ☀️
With the recent dry weather, a lot of lawns are looking brown, patchy and generally a little unhappy — but don’t panic! Brown grass doesn’t always mean it’s dead. In many cases, the grass is simply going dormant to protect itself from the lack of moisture.
Here are a few simple tips to help keep your lawn healthy:
💧 Water deeply rather than little and often
If your lawn needs watering, give it a good soak rather than lightly watering the surface every day. This encourages the roots to grow deeper and makes the grass more resilient during dry periods.
🌅 Water at the right time
Early morning is ideal. Watering during the hottest part of the day means more water is lost to evaporation.
✂️ Don’t cut the grass too short
Raise your mower height during dry weather. Leaving the grass slightly longer helps shade the soil and retain moisture.
🚜 Avoid heavy traffic on stressed grass
Try to avoid excessive walking, playing or parking on the lawn while it’s very dry. Stressed grass can be much more easily damaged.
🌱 Give it some TLC when the weather improves
Once we get some proper rain and the soil has moisture back in it, your lawn can recover surprisingly quickly. That’s a great time to consider scarifying, aerating, overseeding or feeding if needed.
🍃 And don’t forget… brown doesn’t always mean dead!
Grass can go dormant during prolonged dry spells and green back up once conditions improve.
