Solar survey completed today ☀️🔋

Out today surveying for a new solar PV and battery storage system, which will work alongside a new air source heat pump.

We’ll also be carrying out the electrical connection and wiring for the heat pump, so we can look at the whole installation together — incoming supply, loading, roof space, structural loading, solar generation, battery storage and overall demand.

Call out last night to a solar install where the fire brigade had been on site most of the day after the DC isolator went up.

Once they had finished, we were called in to take over and make the system temporarily safe.

The install is only around a month old.

The fire brigade had to spray the loft, so the inverter has now been damaged as well and will need replacing.

Still seeing poor solar installs in 2026 and people are still putting inverters in lofts even though it’s advised against in a lot of cases due to heat, access and ventilation.

Felt like a bit of a hero taking over from the fire brigade 😂

Solar is great when it’s installed properly, but corners can’t be cut with DC.

🐦 Another one caused by birds.

This MC4 connector had pulled apart after birds nested under the panels. The nesting material and constant movement had put strain on the cables, leaving the system with a fault.

Removed the nest, replaced the damaged connector and carried out testing to make sure everything was safe.

This is exactly why bird mesh should be fitted as standard, not treated as an optional extra.
